The Coalition for Organic & Regenerative Agriculture (CORA) has been working hard in Olympia, and we now have a Senate Bill in support of organic agriculture: Senate Bill 6278. The bill is going to be heard this Thursday, January 25, by the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources subcommittee. This is great news! Every year, it’s been a goal to work with Indigenous community during the month of November, Native American Heritage Month. I have mixed Indigenous Mexican ancestry myself and have developed a strong community here in the Pacific Northwest through the intertribal canoe journey movement. Many Indigenous chefs and community organizers are quite busy in November, but finally, after years of trying, we were able to put on an Indigenous Takeover for our November Community Kitchen meal. This October, the Community Kitchens program went to work making delectable delights with winter squash and pumpkins grown at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. We have a mission: to spread the word that many of the beautiful pumpkins and winter squash many of us love to purchase as decorations can actually be eaten. Not only are most edible – they are super foods! Funding Secured for Organic Evaluation The recently concluded 2023 legislative session in Washington State marked a significant milestone for the Coalition for Organic and Regenerative Agriculture (CORA). For the first time, the newly formed coalition actively advocated for legislative action in support of its priorities.
