Bianca Andreescu capped a perfect day for Canadians in Paris, rallying to beat Anna Kalinskaya 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the third round of Roland-Garros. For the first time in the Open Era, two Canadian men are into the third round of the French Open as Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov both advanced at Roland-Garros with gritty wins on another rainy day in Paris.  Both were scheduled to play on Wednesday but were washed out. It was a perfect day for the Canadian women on the red clay of Roland-Garros on Monday. Leylah Annie Fernandez was in flawless form, cruising past Jessika Ponchet 6-2, 6-0 in 69 minutes to advance to the second round of the French Open. The former US Open finalist fired 23 winners and converted five of 11 break points in a dominant display on Court 10 in Paris. Carson Branstine and Mia Kupres wrapped up the NCAA season as national champions with Texas A&M taking home the title in the team tournament. The Aggies defeated Georgia 4-1 in the final.  Texas A&M was seeded 13th but managed to upset three Top 10 teams in a row to claim the title.  Branstine put a point on the board in the final for her school, teaming up with Lucciana Perez to win the No. 2 doubles match. Tennis Canada is saddened to learn of the passing of former Canadian No. 1 and Davis Cup player Dale Power. Power passed away on May 17 at the age of 74.  During his playing career, which began in the late 1960s and lasted until the early 1980s, Power was consistently ranked among the Top 10 Canadians and was the Canadian No. 1 in 1979. At the National Championships, Power won everything there was to win, being crowned national champion in singles and doubles, indoors and outdoors, at both the junior and men’s level.   He was inducted into the Tennis Canada Hall of Fame in 2006.  ..read more
