Back in October, we were kindly invited to the Gunn & Moore HQ in Nottingham to see how their world renowned cricket bats are made. And we weren’t the only ones there that particular day. Three members of the England squad, due to fly out for the Ashes (come on boys!), were personally overseeing the crafting of their own custom bats for the tests. We had the fantastic opportunity to spend some time with them and find out a bit about what makes them tick, and more importantly, what’s inside their kit bag. The first in a series of three, here’s Hampshire’s James Vince talking us through what ..read more

We’ve all been there. Finished our last game of the season, packed our kit away neatly, and then forgot about it until winter nets.  Cue the nightmare when you dig it back out for the first time and notice a nasty crack or a hint of breakage. Nine times out of ten, it’s down to the conditions the bat has been stored in. If an area is too dry, then the moisture in the bat’s willow will dry out too. Dry out too much, and the overall strength of the bat is ..read more

In the run up to Christmas and birthdays, we often get asked about bags as presents. While it’s impossible to give precise help, this should act as a good guide for you to be able to buy a bag from us over the phone or online. Types of Bags There are two main categories of bag – wheelie bags and duffle bags. Wheelie bags have wheels (obviously) and are pulled around. Duffle bags are carried on the back. In general, junior players will tend to use wheelies and senior players duffles – about two thirds is the rough proportion. A notable exception in seniors are wicket keepers. Keepers tend to ha ..read more

The one and only Kevin Pietersen stopped by to promote his new range of Spartan bats and raise awareness of his new passion, a conservation project closely linked to Save the African Rhino Foundation. In the last couple of years Kevin has become a real voice for the rhino, speaking out about the illegal trade in horns, and generously donating all the profit from his Rhino range of cricket bats to charity. Kevin explained this is something very close to his heart and heritage, ‘a rhino gets killed in Africa every eight hours. It kills me to see it and hear about it on a daily bas ..read more
