I have been off this forum for almost one year. My daughter in Mass. has a '69 Beetle with a '70 engine purchased a couple of years ago. (I restore Model A Fords, but once had a '69 and '60 bug.). This forum, and especially Tony, were of tremendous help a year ago when I was doing maintenance work on my daughter's car. It has run smoothly for the past year - until now. She called me in NJ and said that the engine won't fire, but the battery is successfully turning the engine over.
I had...

Both the horn and turn signals stopped working on my 63 Beetle.
Any ideas on how to approach this issue? Are the two connected somewhere/somehow? I don't have a lot of knowledge about this stuff. Thank you ..read more

I recently acquired a 1974 beetle and was curious about how much the weight the roof could handle w/ a roof rack. I would like to put a ladder on the side and a tent on the top of it sometime and go camping I've seen pictures of it done but from my research I've seen the max weight is 120. How are people putting tents on these things and going in if its max is only 120 ..read more

Just looked at a 67 Beetle online and noticed a strange spot on the left rear quarter panel. Upon inquiring owner, he sent me a closeup and said it was a random keyhole inserted who knows when. Strange! Has anyone seen anything like this before? One pic is whole left side and the other is a closeup of the quarter panel ..read more

Hello all,
As a JDM fanatic who got his hands on a bug, I've really not enjoyed the idea of pushrods. As an upgrade I thought it would be a cool idea to go OHC. It's doable with a single cam setup and a few extra pulleys and belts. Obviously the heads will have to be redesigned and you can't do anything about the internal cam, but perhaps I can redesign a head or 2 for such a custom build.
I made this post to see if anyone has any engine building advice (other than not to, I am well aware...

Hi I am looking for advice on our restoration. Mulling over what to do about the interior. We need to remove the existing seats as they dont tip. So the Beetle is in a lot of original 1973 condition, its only done 18000 miles and has been garaged for its whole life!
The original seats were tan, and we still have the rear seat except a bit worn on the edges. So what should we do? If we replace the front seats with "modern" seats with headrests, will it devalue the car overall?
Similarly...

My parking brake and oil lights are flashing at the same time, I don’t know what it means, it’s getting very annoying as I’m driving it late at night often. Speeding up or slowing down does nothing. It has no rhythm. Image has little to do with the question, I just don’t have a video of it happening ..read more
