After seeing a handful posts about finger licks and nails, I thought I would chime in.
So off the bat, I have to state that not only do I have low nail beds, but my nails are super thin and “bend.” They won’t break or brittle, just always bend, as in if I was trying to open a can drink, it would bend back, which then makes the nail weaker.
Over the years, I use fingers picks as well as acrylics. Matter of fact an acrylic is still on my thumb from about a month ago.
With my flatpicking and percussive playing style (when not finger picking) my picking hand pointer finger takes a hell of a ..read more

Trying to buy my perfect lower budget gig guitar. This will be my main gig guitar used for live playing and recording until I can afford a nicer/better choice later down the road. I have always loved Taylor’s, I’ve owned a GS mini for quite some time now and used to own a 110e. So far I’ve bought a Taylor 210ce and 214ce, and now have returned both.
I’ve narrowed my search down to an Epiphone J45 Sunburst (would love to buy a Gibson J45 later) or a Guild D140 Cherry Sunburst. J45 is an open box for $550 and the Guild is brand new for $749.
Which would you choose? Any input on the two would be ..read more

No comparison. Yamaha all the way. The Taylor just sounded so thin and the Yamaha so full.

Hello all! I recently bought a fender F-310-12 12 string from a yard sale for 240 with a hard case. When I went to go look up the serial number A66136_3 (best I can read) on the fender website. However, it came up with no results. Can anyone help me identify where/when it’s from? Thank you so much for any help!

I always thought my dream lifetime guitar was a d-18 and being in the fortunate position to treat myself to one great guitar, I very almost went for it. Got my first Yamaha instead and I’m blown away by how beautiful this thing sounds!

I’ve been playing for about 10 years and have never really took the time to research guitars and what would sound best. I’ve been playing a martin special x series for the last 4 years and have slowly come to hate how thin and quiet it sounds. With that being said i would like to purchase a new acoustic soon. Id say the most id spend would be around 600. Any recommendations for me?

Back and sides are solid sapele, but the top is mahogany. I've always had a personal preference for a more "modern" voicing, and all of my favorite guitars have been spruce-topped Taylors (or, though I can't afford one, spruce boutique instruments with dentist-oriented price tags). Martins have never quite done it for me, though they are obviously fantastic instruments. Just not what I hear in my head. The same has been true for mahogany instruments in general. But this guitar spoke to me the moment I picked it up.
I am questioning everything now. I am wondering if this guitar is actuall ..read more
