Question about making and selling replicas

I am planning on building a near exact replica of a cherry 67 Flying V with vibrola. I plan on making it plainly obvious that it's not a Gibson, it will say "Replica" on the back of the headstock and probably in the cavities too, plus my own serial number and name and Made in my country (not USA). Would it be legal to sell in Europe? From the front it would look identical but I absolutely do not want to fool anyone, I just love that guitar and I definitely don't have the cash for the custom shop or the regular 67 + vibrola. And I'd like to finance tools and more guitars by selling a few of th ..read more

Will pine work as a practice medium for maple finishing?

I just got my first guitar kit with a quilted maple top. I want to practice my finish idea on scrap wood, but I don't have any maple on hand (I've ordered some quilted maple veneer to practice on, but it's shipping from China and won't be here for a month or so). Can I use pine, like a cutting from a 2x4, to practice on, or are the woods too dissimilar to be meaningful? submitted by /u/TheBlash [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What to do with my pickups and trem?

I have managed to get my hands on a Seymour Duncan APH-2s Slash Alnico II Pro Humbucker set. aswell as a Seymour Duncan STK-S4 Stack Plus For Strat (Middle, Black) and a gotoh trem. I was oroginally planning to make a Steve vai Jem style guitar, but now I’m not sure. Now I’m thinking of getting a epiphone Les Paul or smthn and putting the slash pickups in it. Then I would get a cool HSH guitar and put the strat pickup in, and the gotoh trem. then I would get some really high output pickups in for metal. Thoughts? Or any other suggestions welcome submitted by /u/Rocketpig2008 [visit reddit ..read more

Are most humbucker pickups interchangeable?

I would like to swap out two of my three humbucker pickups. My guitar currently has a Seymour Duncan Full Shred SH-10B bridge and Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro neck. I would like to replace them with Suhr pickups - an SSH+ in the bridge and a SSV in the neck. I've spoken with a guitar tech who has advised that the pole piece spacing needs to match my guitar, but I'm struggling to find info online about this. I was hoping to buy the pickups before taking it all over to him, so I'm trying to figure this out on my own (and struggling). Should I just risk it and buy the pickups I want and hope for ..read more
