A dog rescued from a Connecticut state park had been bitten by a copperhead snake.
The dog was rescued in New Haven County from Sleeping Giant State Park by Hamden County Animal Control employees and Hamden County Fire Department members on Wednesday, June 12.
Animal control officials and the dog's owner initially thought he had twisted his leg while hiking in treacherous terrain.

Police captured a 45-year-old Connecticut woman for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 47-year-old woman.
The incident occurred in New Haven County around 10 p.m., Friday, in the area of Main Street and Boston Avenue in East Haven.
East Haven Police said Gina LaVacca, of East Haven, was found suffering from life-threatening injuries and pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a sedan that fled the area.

Extremely hot temperatures, coupled with high humidity and bright sunshine, will make it feel like it's over 100 degrees this week during what is expected to be the first heat wave of the year.

A new highly contagious COVID-19 variant known as KP.3 now accounts for most infections in the United States.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that in a two-week period ending Saturday, June 8, the strain made up 25 percent of cases nationally, just ahead of the KP.2 variant (22.5 percent).

A Connecticut man walking on a city street with a crossbow and a beer was nabbed by patrol officers after receiving numerous 911 calls of a man carrying a rifle.
The incident occurred in New Haven County on Wednesday, June 12, around 5 p.m. on Main Street in Meriden.
