The Connecticut Seaport Car Club‘s 8th Annual Antique and Classic Car Show held last Sunday at Ludlowe High School in Fairfield was a huge success! Recently, we had some young chefs gather to make some delicious freezer-ready meals for our neighbors in need. The chefs, along with their moms Jamie Braden and Katie Holley, were Emma (12), Ava (11), Elodie, Hailey and Alexandra (9), and Abigail (7). The girls made 6 trays of pasta and meatballs as a baked casserole and 3 trays of mac and cheese loaded with hidden veggies. These take and bake meals are some of the pantry items our clients most appreciate. Although it may feel like we have enough in our pantry due to recent drives, our shelves empty quickly in the summer and take longer to refill than the rest of the year. Our most pressing needs are cash, checks and grocery store gifts cards, which allow us to purchase fresh produce, dairy and meat for our neighbors in need.   Regular sized items (not bulk) appreciated. Last Saturday’s NBC New York, Telemundo 47, WNJU and Stop & Shop large-scale food drive to support regional food banks during their campaign “Feeding Our Families”/ “Alimentando a Nuestras Familias” was a great success. We collected over 70 boxes of food and just over $1,200 in donations! Today, on Memorial Day, we honor the memory of the men and women who died in active military service, as well as acknowledge the service and sacrifice of active service members. Did you know that our Community Kitchen serves lunch and dinner Monday through Friday to feed approximately 50 guests per meal who come to us hungry? For many of our guests, this will be the only meal they eat that day. We rely on so many generous volunteers in the community and surrounding area to prepare and donate these meals. We have a few holes in our April calendar and seek your help! We’re looking for volunteers to make dinners in their homes and deliver for our guests on June 13 and 14.
