My wife and I are moving from NC to Fort Payne AL and she's been getting really anxious because apparently she read where tornadoes are common in Fort Payne. The house we're moving into doesn't have a basement but I told her we could always get a storm shelter just to ease her mind. It's right down the road from Little River falls and it's in a pretty rural, flat area. She's like "most tornado videos I've see are always on flat land like this" lol. She even has our daughter feeling anxious about it now. To everyone that lives in Fort Payne or near Little River falls, is the weather that bad ..read more

Have wanted to see the Cahaba lilies since moving here. Totally worth it! Drove to the NWR, parked and walked down the trail, then waded in the river. Wear shoes! submitted by /u/servenitup [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Best place for BBQ driving from Fort Novosel towards Atlanta

I’ll be driving from Fort Novosel towards Atlanta in a few days, and I’ve had no chance to leave the installation for the past 5 weeks. Since I haven’t had the opportunity to try “Alabama” food yet, where would you recommend I stop for lunch along the way? I’ve heard Alabama is known for its BBQ, but I’m open to anything unique to the state. Bonus points if the place serves beer. Thanks! submitted by /u/royaldunlin [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
