The Death Of The Unorthodox Goalie

As it stands in my books, being of the era that best reflects these type of goalies, the following tendies have clearly demonstrated that it's not how you look doing it but rather that you get the job done. As said by one of these featured goalies here in this thread (lets see who you might guess), quote: "I'd rather look ugly making a save then to look pretty and getting scored on". For myself, I've noticed that when you try to be too perfect in style, you sometimes hinder your chances more than anything. Great goaltending looks boring. Sloppy makes for occasional flashes of greatness   ..read more

Most Iconic Goalie Per Team History

I'm bored, so here goes... Which is the most iconic goalie per team in their history, and I don't necessarily mean stats or numbers, just that one guy that resonates his team. *Don't get all bent out of shape if you disagree or I happen to not mention one or just ran a blank. It's supposed to be fun! It's just hockey...and life...and all that the universe has to offer   My pics: Montreal - Patrick Roy...Dryden close 2nd Toronto - Mike Palmateer...Cujo close 2nd Detroit - Chris Osgood Boston - Reggie Lemelin Chicago - Phil Esposito...Belfour close 2nd Edmonton - Grant Fuhr Pittsburgh - Mar ..read more

He's been great this season on an inexperienced team. 'Canes are putting a beating on him and he's making impossible stops. 4-0 Canes but the score should be 10-0. His demeanor has been professional and his technique is precise and quick this season. Very impressive.   ..read more

Connor Bedard Jaw Fracture

Nobody bought a ticket to watch Brendan Smith. Nobody. This is why the NHL is like 5th on the ranking of pro sports. They have no stars. When they do, they aren't protected. Blah blah - head down - the game is tough - blah. Nobody cares. It's like rooting for the storm troopers that shoot Han Solo.  The NHL can fix this easily. Drop the crazy instigation rule. Just make it 2 extra minutes for instigation. No suspensions, fines, game misconducts, etc. Let the teams dress a criminal on skates every game. Leave him on the bench until it's time to make someone pay. It won't happen often, but ..read more

PWHL: History in the making

If some of you have been living under a rock or too busy watching Gilligan's Island reruns, the PWHL is the new Pro Women's Hockey League.  The prior women's leagues were absorbed to create this stronger and better organized league with plenty of hing end financing and sponsors with support from the NHL and more. It's been in the process of development for over a year or more and after holding its live draft broadcast on national TV last fall, the puck officially dropped on January 2nd 2024 for the first game between Toronto and New York. It was a really physical game! The second game the ..read more

Oil Spill

Who else is absolutely giddy with the embarrassment that is the 2023-2024 Oilers right now?  Over the past few years I've realized that I no longer care about supporting a team in the NHL and that my joy mostly comes from rooting against teams.  So (ignoring Boston), I'm enjoying this season.  ..read more
