I have been working on my jerk bait fishing.  Starting to catch a few.  Had a few questions.  First what baits do you recommend?  Second what line type and test do you recommend?  Lastly I seem to be only catching small fish.  Is jerk bait fishing more for small fish?  Thanks Charlie  ..read more

Went fishing this last weekend and somehow chipped the top guide on my ultralight rod, and can not figure out where to find a replacement guide. the rod is a JDM rod with a .8MM blank diameter at the tip. I found this info online, apparently the guide is a "titanium LF top guide ( Sisco -S )", but I have not been able to find any info on this. Anyone know where I could find a replacement guide this small ..read more

Best non-frog weedless, topwater bass lures

I’m up in New Hampshire and when I don’t have time to hit the salt, I sneak over to local ponds to bend the rod. These ponds have a ton of weeds taking up most of the water column, leaving few open water options.   frogs work but I am looking for options to throw to get through that thick vegetation and maintain presentation.   whopper plopper has been ok, but still very susceptible to picking up weeds just below the subsurface.    Thanks in advance ..read more

My dad who is 85 years old enjoys freshwater fishing and gets around pretty well but rough/uneven terrain is understandably a challenge.  He told me he tried a spot on the peconic river yesterday that he’d fished a bunch of times before and did not feel safe due to the relatively steep and uneven approach. A few years ago I purchased one of those little 10’ boats from Dicks along with a trolling motor to try to find a way to take him out but it’s just a little too tricky for him to get in and out of (I’ll probably be selling the boat shortly) so I’m hoping some folks can recommend a few s ..read more

Let my 12 yr old play hooky yesterday from school.  (Also fish hooky, lol).   Went to several area in Maryland to shad catch.  Lots of action with both American (whites) and big hickory shad.  MD department of Natural Resources was doing a tagging and survey program for Americans so they were asking for them.  Provided around 30 to them for the study.   Great day and we left em biting.   My son with a double header ..read more

Central Park - fishing decline

I have been fishing Central Park regularly for the past 8 years from 59th to 110th and everything in between. I've noticed in the past several years a serious decline of fish (bass) in all lakes, it's like they're all giving me the Bronx cheer (the middle finger). When I started it was common to catch bass on every outing, and a few spots I knew, a few fish at the same place within minutes of each other. Now, years later and a much better fisherman I can fish the park for 1/2 a day with only a few bites. I'm sure there are many reasons, all small, stagnant, heavily pressured ponds, a ..read more

Spot lock and noise

Last season added spot lock to my 16 MIrroCraft.  Awesome in that I can stop and hold anywhere and in just about any condition without need to deploy the anchor.  Usually once I use an anchor I tend to stay in that spot longer so the spot lock allows me to fish more and make small and large moves with ease.   The downside is the motor is constantly running on and off.  Noise and vibration.     Does anyone else feel that the motor on and off and changing speeds spooks fish?  Heck I sometimes even shut off the sonar because of the noise especially in shall ..read more

We gave trout fishing a little break and headed to a larger lake to see if the bass were biting yet.  My buddy's kid caught this one.  4 pounder.  Another guy there caught one of similar size.  Nice way to start the season ..read more
