World records fell like spring raindrops over the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, as the 2024 Speedo Canadian Masters Swimming Championships unfolded this past weekend.
New world standards and Canadian records made for an entertaining and successful championship. There were six world records set, including four by Canadians and two by U.S. swimmers.
Peter McKinnon, out of the Etobicoke Olympium Masters Aquatic Club (EOMAC), set his world record in the men’s 50-m backstroke in the 60-64 age-group. He swam the race in a time of 29.29.

Following a successful Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials, Presented by Bell, Swimming Canada has announced its National Development Team Program teams for 2024.
Canada will send 30 swimmers (15 males, 15 females) to the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, which will be staged at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra Aug. 21-24. Meanwhile, a group of 10 (four males, six females) will represent Canada at the Open Water Junior World Championships Sept. 6-8 in Alghero, Italy.

TORONTO – The future of Canadian swimming was on full display Saturday on the sixth and penultimate night of the Olympic & Paralympic Trials, Presented by Bell.
Finlay Knox from the High Performance Centre – Vancouver, in the men’s 200-m individual medley, and Toronto’s Josh Liendo, in the men’s 50 freestyle, lowered their own national records in back-to-back finals at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

TORONTO – For the second night in a row, a Canadian swam a world record in Canada’s Fastest Pool.
Reigning world champion Nicholas Bennett won Friday’s multiclass final in the men’s 200-m individual medley at the Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials, Presented by Bell. His time of 2:05.97 was more than a second and a half faster than the previous world SM14 mark.

TORONTO – Summer McIntosh put an exclamation point on the midway mark of the Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials, Presented by Bell, annihilating her own world record in the women’s 400-m individual medley Thursday.
It was already the third qualifying time of the week for the 17-year-old phenom, who opened the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle Monday before triumphing in the 200 free on Day 2.

TORONTO – Persistence paid off for veterans Ingrid Wilm and Jeremy Bagshaw Wednesday at the Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials, Presented by Bell.
Wilm, of Calgary’s Cascade Swim Club, qualified to be nominated to the Paris 2024 Olympic Team under Priority 1, while Bagshaw, representing Island Swimming in Victoria, ended years of disappointment and frustration by qualifying for relay consideration.
Past Olympic trials had been heartbreaking for both athletes.

TORONTO – Katarina Roxon made history Tuesday at the Olympic & Paralympic Trials, Presented by Bell, while five other swimmers put themselves in position to make their Olympic debuts.
Roxon, a 2016 Paralympic champion from Kippens, N.L., swam an “A” qualifying time in the women’s 100-m breaststroke SB8. That qualifies her to be nominated to her record fifth Paralympic Team, most ever among Canadian female swimmers (subject to slot allocations of 15 women and seven men).

TORONTO – Team Canada spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are on the line as Swimming Canada’s flagship event returns to Toronto.
