Three major things happened at the meeting:  the election of Hickory Grove Baptist Church Pastor Clint Pressley to be head of the SBC; a vote to formally ban women pastors, which narrowly failed; and a formal opposition to in-vitro fertilization treatments for couples experiencing infertility issues. IREDELL COUNTY, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- More than $420,000 in cash from criminal activity was seized from three Chinese nationals, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office. On May 22, deputies stopped a vehicle, finding each of the three occupants had a large amount of cash. All three men said they did not know where the money came from or who it belonged to. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A man was found dead in an apartment building southwest Charlotte Thursday afternoon, police say.  According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to call just after 12:30 p.m. to assist Medic in the 800 block of Farmhurst Drive off Nations Ford Road. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Charlotte man was arrested Thursday afternoon after being accused of assault with a deadly weapon in Grier Heights.  According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the intersection of Randolph Road and Sam Drenan Road. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - The owners of several North Carolina restaurants are being sued over their name. Whataburger location construction plan approved for east Charlotte Texas-based chain "Whataburger" is taking the Tar Heel state restaurants to court citing trademark infringement. The North Carolina locations are also called What-a-burger, except the name is spelled with hyphens. The lawsuit claims the Texas-based chain reached out to the defendants several years ago when it decided it would expand into North Carolina. DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Retired Duke sports radio play-by-play announcer Bob Harris died Wednesday. He was 81. Former radio analyst Wes Chesson announced Harris’ death in an update on a GoFundMe page that had been created to raise money for Harris’ care. He had been previously diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and been in hospice care, and the site had raised more than $101,000 from more than 500 donations since its launch in early 2023. The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision Thursday ruled that a group of anti-abortion doctors does not have any legal basis to challenge access to mifepristone, one of the two common drugs used in medication abortion.  As a result, access to mifepristone won’t change.   The opinion, written by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, sided with the Biden administration and Danco, the manufacturer of the branded version of mifepristone. NC DMV says they are chipping away at a major driver's license backlog

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - Officials with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles said a major backlog of driver’s license requests could be cleared by the end of the month. At its peak, NCDMV was behind about 350,000 licenses, and the cards were taking up to seven weeks to get to customers. In February, NCDMV leaders caught a coding error in their system that allowed people to request licenses online who shouldn’t have been able to.
