Zakk is now ten and a half months old and we have had him since he was eight weeks. He's great in the house, obedient, well-trained etc. Since the day we got him, we have been trying to train him to walk without pulling and he was pretty good for the first couple of months. For the last six months though, he has been getting worse and worse, to the point now where it is getting dangerous to walk him in public.
I know there will be loads of posts about this, but I don't want to just get...

Our kennel club hosted a rattlesnake avoidance clinic today - good turnout - 43 dogs I think. I live & hike in a high risk area so thought it would be worthwhile. There is a live snake on the ground - no cage, defanged and safe. The dogs are fitted with an e-collar and the snake handler has the remote. Walk the dog toward the snake, it is coiled and rattling and dog gets curious, looks toward snake and the guy times the dogs interest with a high level stimulation on the collar. he then gets...

Hello everyone!
I have a very intense dobershark puppy. She will be 12 weeks on Tuesday. I have read through threads that this is normal and I’m trying to keep my composure and be calm and consistent as best I can. Although I must admit that I somewhat lost it today. I was trying to get a stick out of her mouth that she was trying to eat and she bit down hard enough to puncture my finger and draw blood. I pipped her nose (only hard enough to get her attention; not to hurt her). I know this...

Hey Everyone. We got our girl Nellie when she was an 8 week old pup. She is around 4 and a half months now. She is good with commands like sit, paw, other paw, lay down. We also have an orange female cat around 7 months old that she plays with. Once in a while she and the cat get out of hand playing together, no blood drawn just a little more rough than we are used to.
We are having some issues with her in public places. We have tried to do our best to get her out and about with people and...

Hello fellow forum members!
I have a question about training - has anyone trained their Dobe for both Schutzhund competition and as a therapy/educational dog? I'm asking because I'm seriously considering having my Dobe Pippi do both - she's got the potential to do very well in Schutzhund, but is also so sweet and docile around children, that I'm considering doing both with her.
On the surface it may seem odd - having a dog train in Schutzhund - a portion of which involves controlled...

Hello again everyone! I’ve asked this before back when onyx was 8 months old, questions around anxiety, but I’m back to get some additional help. We live in downtown Toronto, he’s been here since he was 2 months old and he’s always struggled with things like garbage cans, garbage bags, anyone getting off a courier truck with a box, anything flying in the wind, all sandwich boards outside stores.. the list goes on. We have done quite literally everything to help him through. We have a private...

Just going to start a training progress thread here for Flint. We are getting the hang of loose leash walking but he's still a butthead sometimes. My goal is to walk him off leash in a heel position through a busy area with no issues by the beginning of May. I am currently taking Shield K9's Off-Leash course. So far I really like it. Things are explained and demonstrated well on multiple dogs that are not trained throughout the videos.
These videos were taken last week. I am now...

I haven't watched this yet, I've got to commit to over 2 hours because I'm pretty sure I won't want to stop once I get started! These are two of the best trainers, both are pretty down to earth and the content description sounds like it will be chock full of information in discussion format.
Thought I'd share it here in case anyone else admires these guys & wants to learn more. In the description there's a timeline of topics discussed so you can get an idea of what the video will...

I can't say I purposely trained this. Asha as a puppy though was always, always redirected if she picked up anything that was not hers.
So the other day I did a town run. 2 packages of beef ribs and I forgot my insulated bag that zips up. Asha was in the truck because we were going to practice obedience on the way home. I had yet a Walmart run to do. She often gets in the front seat when I'm gone into a store for a while, so the only thing I could think to do is put the treat bag...
