Dancing Dick Nelson vs. Herb Gerwig (Killer Karl Kox) Buffalo Late 1950s MD: Another upload from the family of Killer Karl Kox. This was before he had the gimmick. He was the straight man here to the Dancing Polar Bear from Lansing Michigan, Dick Nelson. Nelson had a bit of Rikki Starr in him, but maybe by way of an elk's lodge. He had musical notes on his jacket and just didn't stop, a constant blur of motion as he boogied to a song only in his own head. He was still a scrapper however. They clashed before the bell and Gerwig went right over, the victim of a monkey flip. He took a powder an ..read more

Masashi Aoyagi May Be Crazy But He Ain't No Fool

Masashi Aoyagi vs. Tatsumi Fujinami NJPW 6/12/91-GREAT PAS: This was a different style fight, which is the NJPW version of a worked shoot/shootstyle match. This was a nifty styles clash with Aoyagi lacing Fujinami with kicks to thigh and to the ribs, and Fujinami trying to get close enough to take him down. There was a sick spot where Fujinami stepped into a kick with a forearm strike, and then bodied Fujinami with Gi assisted judo throws, including using Aoyagi's gi to nearly choke him out. The actually finish was Fujinami using a figure four choke to get Aoyagi to tap, but that Gi choke was ..read more

17. 1979.01.XX2 - 05 Masumi Tsumaki & Victoria Fujimi vs. Monster Ripper K: I believe Masumi Tsumaki is Victoria Fujimi’s sister. There’s not much information about her. She’s better known as a masked wrestler called ‘Silver Satan’ who tagged with Mariko Akagi as Silver Pair. They both retired together later in 1979. We get a bit of stalling to start this off including Yumi Ikeshita punching the referee to a little chuckle from the crowd, perhaps a foreshadow of what’s to come? Victoria is the smaller of the two, she tries to use her speed to keep out of the way of Monster’s attacks, whi ..read more

AEW Collision 6/8/24 Dustin Rhodes vs Johnny TV MD: As I get older and as the world becomes more jaded and ironic around me, I find myself more and more as a true believer of pro wrestling. The core tenets work. The core tenets always work. They are primal. They play upon certain facets of our brains in the best of ways. There can be holes, flaws, chinks in the armor, dodgy bits of execution, some coldness when it comes to one of the competitors, but so long as you trust in the time-tested theories, it is going to work. And no one makes it work, no one plays upon those theories, better than Du ..read more

Yoshiaki Fujiwara/Seiji Sakaguchi/Kantaro Hoshino/Antonio Inoki/Keiji Muto vs. Akira Maeda/Kengo Kimura/Super Strong Machine/Riki Choshu/Tatsumi Fujinami NJPW 8/19/87- EPIC These multi-man elimination 80s NJ matches are as certified as a wrestling match gets. At this point New Japan had shifted from the UWF vs. NJ feud, into kind of a generations feud, with Maeda on one side and Fujiwara on the other, and Choshu and Fujinami teaming up. Young Muto is a bit out of place repping the old school, which was a fun wrinkle to this match. The energy of these matches is always a standout, everyone is s ..read more

Let Us Examine Our Ways and Test Them And Let Us Return To Yoshiaki Fujiwara

Been a while since I added to my Fujiwara C+A, which I started 15 years ago,  so I decided to look around the internet and find some things I hadn't watched and reviewed from my favorite guy ever Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs. Johnny Mantell NJPW 2/7/80- GREAT This is some of the earliest Fujiwara footage we have, and he hadn't become full caps FUJIWARA yet, and it was cool to see him try out some unfamiliar stuff. He hits Mantell with some cool half judo throw, half Ricky Steamboat armdrags, and some nasty looking European uppercuts, he even tries a running splash. There was a lot of cool ..read more

WWF House Show Wisconsin Fieldhouse 10/28/90 ER: I love these "undocumented" WWF house shows so much. It's like they never existed, WWF out here running secret shows in podunk towns. Matt and I wrote about a WWF Boy Scout Fundraiser show from '92, which is one of my favorite show reviews we've ever done for Segunda Caida. These shows are special. The WWF showing up in some nothing central Wisconsin town with $9 tickets sold at the local hardware store, like when some mudshow Harlem Clowns barnstormers played members my small childhood town's fire and police departments in our high schoo ..read more

Week 26: The Number One Contender EB: There are certain expectations when you are a member of El Ejercito de la Justicia. You watch each other's backs. You stand united against the rudos. You come to each other’s aid when the odds are against you. Someone will always team up with you when you need a partner. And one of the longstanding tenets of El Ejercito de la Justicia is the understanding that you do not challenge another member for a title they hold. It’s a gentleman’s agreement that has been respected for as long as El Ejercito de la Justicia has been around. Our journey through 1990 has ..read more

16. 1979.01.XX2 - 04 Lucy Kayama vs. Maki Ueda K: I did enjoy this, but it’s not a great sign that after watching this 20 minute match I don’t feel like I have that much to say about it. The match was mostly holds and targeting limbs, but there was a slight lack of urgency about the whole thing that kept it from being an overall good match for me. Lucy was able to take the advantage pretty early on, which is a bit surprising when she’s very much the underdog in this match as she has less than half the experience Maki does. Lucy’s work on top was mostly attacking Maki’s arm, but it doesn’t rea ..read more
