Reason I ask. I have a hunting buddy that just came back from SC hunt. He’s telling me the hogs were spooked when they turned on the IR. Says it casts a “ shadow”. I found that incredible knowing it’s out of there wavelength spectrum.
But I have seen the “shadow” he’s speaking of upon zooming in . It’s an image of the IR emitter.
Possibly maybe?
I thought initially maybe it was the glow of the NV ocular illuminating his face. Nope. He used the rubber bellowed eye shield.
BTW he was...

Well I originally joined these forums with the sole intention of broadening my horizons in the distance of my effectiveness(Bow Hunter) While benefiting from some of the early or late seasons afforded to black powder seasons.
With the sole intentions on using the information I gained here on one particular hunt.

cowerker and i are planning a woods walk that will either get us into some nice squirrel hunting or the opportunity for a pig
Since I dont think my preferred squirrel popper (22lr SBR w/ 4" barrel) is what I want Im thinkin of taking the 54 muzzle loader as well
Or taking just my 12ga pump - but slug accuracy is dismal past 25-30 yards. Need to try some 00 buck ... but I cant shoot it past 25 yards at the range Im a member of and tbh I dont think it will let me reach 50 yards
Other...

Be it hogs, coyotes, or deer, apparently hunters have a hard time accurately guessing weights and they tend to over estimate weights. Old article, but good one...

One of our properties has an abundance of wild hogs. Every spring i shoot small pigs from a stand about 30 yards from the feeder. i use #4 buckshot and have killed up to nine pigs with one shot. Dead pigs don't become hogs.
This feeder dispenses corn in at 07:30 and at 20:00, a total of about two pounds daily. Two or three different sounders visit feeder in a 24 hour period: Here are some ..read more

Hello all, I am starting to look into a hog hunt. This year I sighted in my 50 cal. TC Omega for deer hunting but never got the chance to pull the trigger in our late season. My new load was 110gr. BH209 powder, Barnes spitfire 250gr.tez and a cci 209 primer. I would imagine that load should work for hogs. What are your thoughts? I also have other bullets if you think I should change. TC 370gr max-balls, 350+370gr maxi-hunter, TC 270gr xtp mag sabots, TC sure fire 230gr jacketed hollow...
