A state judge has ruled a civil lawsuit involving the operation of the Woodstock Foundation will proceed to trial this fall, but only on some preliminary matters to start. Vermont Superior Court Judge H. Dickson Corbett, in seeking the two-part trial, said he wants to initially resolve the legal questions of whether former longtime Foundation Chair Ellen R.C. Pomeroy and Vice Chair Salvatore Iannuzzi were improperly removed from the board and whether the subsequent actions by the other trustees — including the replacements — are valid. Pomeroy and Iannuzzi filed a multi-count lawsuit in Januar ..read more

For the second time in 30 months, the District 3 Commission of the Vermont Natural Resources Board has denied an Act 250 land-use permit for the proposed Peace Field Farm farm-to-fork restaurant on Pomfret Road because the commission found that the project does not conform with the Woodstock Town Plan and zoning regulations. The ruling by the District 3 commissioners follows an April 24 ruling by Judge Thomas G. Walsh of the Vermont Superior Court, Environmental Division, commonly known as the Vermont Environmental Court, that the footprint of the restaurant project as presently proposed by Pe ..read more

By Lauren Dorsey, Staff Writer As Father’s Day approaches, we talked with Woodstock resident Todd Kortekamp, who is both a biological father and a foster father. “Fatherhood, to me, means giving kids a chance to be who they are and learning about that as much on their own as possible,” said Kortekamp. “We felt like Vermont was a great place for them to do that.” Kortekamp and his wife, Beth, moved to the area in 2019. “We wanted our kids to be able to get around, get dirty and muddy, climb trees, and be themselves,” he said. “When I was growing up, my dad had a small part-time farm, and it was ..read more

The 44th annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon Craft and Music Festival will be soaring into action this weekend, promising a vibrant array of crafts, music, and — of course — hot air balloons. “Anyone who’s never been in a balloon, I recommend it,” said Heather LeBlanc, a volunteer with the festival. “I’ve been four times. It’s just so quiet. I don’t like going on ladders. I don’t like being on bridges. But I’ll fly in a hot air balloon every day.” While the balloons often take center stage, Havah Walther, the Hartford Chamber of Commerce executive director, noted that they only make up a small part ..read more

Provided by WUHS Boys Lacrosse Coach, Brandon Little and edited by the Vermont Standard  A mix of sun and clouds with pleasant temperatures set the stage for the Boy’s Division I quarter-final matchup between Woodstock and the South Burlington Wolves last Friday, June 7.  Woodstock was coming off a narrow loss to Burr & Burton to conclude a 10-5 regular season. It was a constructive loss, however, as the Wasps rallied late and came very close to tying the game.  Senior defender Owen Kross commented that the team was upbeat, feeling that they’d made adjustments throughout the ..read more
