AURORA, Mo. - Families in Aurora are still feeling the same grief they did one year ago today when a driver crossed the center line and hit a group of motorcyclists.
Four people died on Highway 39 just north of town and seven were injured.
“Almost everybody we rode with that day either got hurt or killed,” said LJ Harris. “So we lost everybody we rode with in one accident.”

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A state representative from southwest Missouri is calling on Springfield to reconsider its gay pride event scheduled this weekend.
Ozarks Pridefest is billed as a family-friendly celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, but state representative Jamie Gragg said he's concerned that some parts of the event -- like drag performances -- are not appropriate for children.
Ozarks Pridefest is scheduled to start in Springfield at noon on Saturday.

BRANSON, Mo. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project office at Table Rock Lake is reminding property owners of the policy around removing dead and damaged trees following recent storms that knocked down several trees in the area.
In a news release, the USACE says owners must get prior written authorization to remove dead or storm-damaged trees on public property.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Former Missouri State University (MSU) basketball player Abdul-Hakim Fofana is sharing his story six years after a cryotherapy mishap caused career-ending injuries to his feet.
Fofana is suing MSU and on Tuesday his lawyers will be in court arguing why this case should not be dismissed.
In 2018, the MSU men's basketball coaching staff arranged for the cryotherapy machine to be brought to the arena on the team's off day to help the players with their recovery.

STONE COUNTY, Mo. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have temporarily closed the swimming area at the Cape Fair campground for high levels of E. Coli bacteria.
"Around holiday weekends, we're required by the county or the state to do an E. Coli test," Public Affairs Specialist Jay Woods with the Corps of Engineers said. "The park rangers go out to all the swim beaches and they do samples and they turn everything [over] to the Stone County Department of Health and we were given information that E. coli levels were too high."

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Actress, model, author and entrepreneur Brooke Shields will be visiting Missouri State University (MSU) this fall.
According to a press release from MSU, Shields will be the keynote speaker at the 2024 Public Affairs Conference. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Juanita K. Hammons Hall of the Performing Arts.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Two people have been arrested for their involvement in a car chase and a shooting across Springfield that ended near the Mercy Hospital.
According to SPD Public Information Officer Cris Swaters, the incident started was a disturbance between two people over a stolen Mustang. The owner of the stolen Mustang chased down the vehicle in a truck and shot off some rounds in a couple of different areas.

According to online court documents, 63-year-old Darryl Cunningham was arrested and has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
A probable cause statement from the Springfield Police Department (SPD) says officers responded to the 500 block of North Eldon on May 29 for a reported domestic assault.
