My go-to birthday party treat growing up has always been good old rice krispie treats. I remember bringing these yummy rice cereal treats to every birthday party to have during cake time, and I always looked forward to them because they were just that good. As I got older, I learned how to make them myself; now, I love to add vegan chocolate on top, too! Rice krispie treats are truly such an easy and delicious sweet treat, and they’re incredibly easy to make gluten-free and dairy-free. Here’s a simple way to make them yourself!

No one wants to find out they have a food allergy. It makes a lot of things like eating, socializing, and attending school much more difficult. While there isn’t a person I know who would choose to have a food allergy, there are some benefits to think about. I’ve created my top five list of things that make having a food allergy a little bit better.
1. Instant conversation
Food allergies fall in the category of interesting and not sensitive enough to avoid asking about. When someone finds out about my allergy to tree nuts, they want to hear which nuts I am allergic to, how I figured ..read more

Want to join in on that donut party but can’t find a donut that is dairy free? Unable to eat the chocolate on St. Patrick’s Day?
After years of being allergic to dairy (in addition to peanuts and tree nuts), I’ve found some delicious options that act as great alternatives. It’s always good to have a list of treats and foods that you can swap out for the unsafe ones so that you don’t feel left out when food is a part of social events. Here are a few dairy (and nut) free alternatives that you can add to your list for the next swap!

One of my recent obsessions is seeing if I can make all of the cool recipes on my TikTok For You Page with the hashtag #allergyfriendly. Some of the baked-good recipes on there can be pretty challenging, but luckily, I’ve found many simple snack recipes that are quite easy to put my own allergy friendly twist on. One of my favorite sweet treat recipes that I’ve made recently are allergy friendly snicker dates. These dates are a healthy and delicious spin on Snickers bars. I first found this recipe on @emilymariko’s TikTok page. These yummy date treats are dairy free, nut free, and gluten fr ..read more

Going on field trips or school excursions can be a nervous experience for people with food allergies, but here are some ways to stay safe.
Bring your food allergy medication
The best way to stay safe is to bring your EpiPen or AuviQ with you on the field trip in a small pouch or bag. In addition, you can also bring an antihistamine like Claritin or Benadryl. Contact the trip supervisor a few days before the trip to let them know why you need your medication and what you’re allergic to. This will make the experience less stressful and make those on the trip aware of your allergies and what sym ..read more

According to Merriam Webster, empathy is defined as being aware of, understanding, and vicariously experiencing the feelings of others (“Empathy Definition & Meaning”). Life with a hidden condition like food allergies has a lot of challenges that people don’t recognize. It can be hard if you don’t have food allergies to show compassion for a situation that is so drastically different from your own. Many people with food allergies share the same experiences of receiving countless questions or witnessing media misrepresentation of food allergies. As a teen with food allergies, I have found ..read more

A plain crispy pizza crust
Total Time
55 minutes
Yield
6-8 slices
My pizza options have always been limited due to my food allergies. Nonetheless, I often want to eat pizza. As a solution to my cravings, I took an old tapioca flatbread recipe and adapted it into this allergen-free pizza crust.
I use the Authentic Foods brand tapioca flour. For the oven temperature, 350 works for a softer crust, 375 makes a bit crispier crust, and 400 produces the crispiest and fastest crust.

Free of: Sesame, dairy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and soy
