I eat expired food all the time - within reason. I thought of this thread as I was eating a burrito with a Mission flour tortilla (from Costco US in a 40 pack for $7) that has a BB date of March 23, 2024. In the burrito, I had some rice and beans. The bag of beans that I used has a BB date of September 2021. I also have a jar of grainy Dijon mustard in my fridge that has been there for at least five years and it still tastes fine - and I'm still alive! I guess I wouldn't care if I was dead! I'm surprised there is no thread dedicated to expired food, or food that is past its best before or use by date. This is especially important in these days of food inflation where we should not waste food - although we should not waste food at any time because it is a waste of money and other resources. I had been going to Happy Fine Food at First Markham Place for years to get bags of frozen dumplings. The store changed management a few years ago, new owners, change of name. Tried this and it was surprisingly delicious...the parmesan sauce is really good, and it melds well with the bacon and crispy onions! All the standard ingredients worked well except the pickles, which I think would've been fine if it weren't for the fact that I just think McDonald's pickles are slimy, gross and inedible. Burger is a limited time offer, but I hope they keep this one. Costco sells Nongshim Tonkatsu Ramen and it's delicious. Nongshim doesn't sell their broth powders separately, otherwise I'd have been living on Shin broth for decades. I've looked in Asian stores and J-town and all I've found are dashi-based powders and concentrates. Does anyone know of a good tonkatsu option?
