Where would an experienced prospector target on this claim?

Hi, just curious if there any experienced prospectors out there that would give me some advice as to where you would target prospecting on this claim. It's new to me, one trip up to get a lay of the land, pretty rugged spot, not much trace of recent activity, no established trails, just deer paths and mountain goating to get to the creek. I found some small gold but really haven't worked it at all. Theres good flow in the creek and it's flowing right to left in the picture, no water... Read more ..read more

New Placer Claim - First Visit

I made it up to my new claim for the first time. This place, right on the boundary between Plumas and Sierra national forest puts the wild in wilderness. Since I purchased this claim sight unseen, I had some idea what to expect from the gps coordinates and a handful of pictures. I knew it would be an adventure and I got what I expected. There are no established trails down to the creek, 1/4 mile hike down (and up) at a 45 degree angle to the pristine creek. I only managed to venture 100... Read more ..read more

Where do you sell your gold?

After getting into prospecting over the past 5 years, I'm finally to the point where I have a bit of gold to sell. I told myself that when I could fill a vial, that would be when I'd sell. The day has finally come! I have learned, when it comes to prospecting, there is the hard way and the harder way! I'd like to avoid some newbie mistakes when selling my first gold. Any advice on where to sell (I'm in the Sacramento/Marysville area), what to expect with regards to price... Read more ..read more

Here is a video of where I am currently looking for gold. I am not an experienced gold hunter I have just started about a month ago. I am digging behind the big rock sticking out of the water where the water slows down. I have dug down around one foot. Do I need to dig deeper? Should I look in another spot? Any help would be welcome thanks Below is a link to the video please let me know if it cannot be seen ..read more

Collecting heavy’s in a hurry.

As we all know placer prospecting/ mining is the action of washing lighter dirt and stones away from the heavier things that we are after. Over the years I feel the industry has focused heavily on washing down to the least amount of cons possible but sacrificing speed in the process. This makes sense to a degree but in my case leaves a bit to be desired. We have fine gold here so moving the most you can with the time you have is the key. A guy can run three times the dirt if he’s not... Read more ..read more

I thought this was interesting. I've never heard of gold being deposited in this way. Doubt anyone will ever be allowed to prospect and develop it, being where it's located. Still you gotta wonder what other deposits of mineral wealth is down below all that ice. https://www.northernminer.com/news/antarctic-volcano-spews-us6000-worth-of-gold-daily/1003866866 ..read more

Gold flakes in slate?

Is it possible to find gold flakes in slate? I found a small rock the other day and it has gold colored flakes on it. Doesn't appear to be iron pyrite, but not positive. Can you find gold flakes in slate? I live in Rhode island and there's not much gold around here, so I'm doubtful that it's gold. Lousy pics, but maybe you can see the flakes on it ..read more
