With all the rain and storms, seemed like a high probability of the garlic crop failing, but it came through in shining colors...subject to the taste test. Sun drying followed by shed drying for a couple of weeks, and then it should be ready for stringing and table use ..read more

TAMU Jalapeños

I like my peppers to have heat. If I eat a pepper, I want and expect the heat. I dislike the TAMU jalapeños. Such a terrible waste of a nice pepper. Major shade thrown on the idiots that ruined the jalapeño. I rarely buy jalapeños anymore because of the TAMU pepper. How can I discern a TAMU jalapeño from a regular jalapeño? Is there a proven way to do this without tasting it ..read more

We had one round of garden flooding a few weeks ago that lasted a day. Hadn't really recovered from that then BAM!!!!!! This time everything was under water for 3 days. Pretty much everything is dead......Limas, green beans, okra, peppers squash.....all dead..... My tomatoes are in raised beds they are alive for now but in really bad shape. Not holding out hope for of a crop. Luckily I have a bunch of tomatoes in my greenhouse. I know I cant replant tomatoes getting too hot, no time for... I normally harvest my spring potato crop at the end of May. However, I don't normally have 40 inches of rain in 17 days preceding harvest like this year...with more heavy rain predicted tomorrow. I'm expecting that when (if) the sun comes out, the temps will soar, and the new potatoes will begin to rot in the super wet soil...requiring immediate harvest. I've seen this happen before and it can happen very quickly with the entire crop rotting out if not harvested. Next week will be... Looking like an early potato harvest ..read more

Tomatillo

They are easy to grow producing an attractive flowering plant from seed that tends to spread out rather than grow upward like tomatoes. Mine tend to be as wide as they are tall…about 4 feet. They are not self-pollinating, so they need a companion(s). Each plant produces over two pounds of fruit and it can be a bit tricky picking it at the right time…not watermelon tricky but... Watching a master gardener plant a tomatoe plant on its side, pinching off lower leaves and flowers, and just leaving the top of the plant to grow. Anyone try this? He said it will make a lot more tomatoes and last longer ..read more

Zero Turn Mower

I wanted to share my experience with Bad Boy Mower. Bought a zero turn mower 52" on sale at Tractor Supply, used the paint off of it for years. When I finally decided to get a bigger mower, I cleaned up the mower and sold it for almost what I paid for it. That mower did not only hold good value for resale, but sold in 15 minutes on FB marketplace. Bad Boy mowers are strong, durable and easy to repair. Many youtube vides out there for self help and maintenance. Well, I bet you can... Zero Turn Mower ..read more
