The gf tells me that direct trains will start soon. She cannot possibly mean the fast trains as the concrete is still being built.
I am curious , does this mean that we can get on the fast trains from Vientiane. So a break in Yunan is a possibility. The real pain is getting the laos visa . So a trip to China means 2 laos visas ? 40 USD each way.   ..read more

For as long as you have lived in or visited Thailand, when have you noticed that Thailand has just become a place that draws in so many people?  ..read more

I am not sure where to post this so If a moderator wants to move it be my guest.
I will be flying to the UK (Heathrow) later in the year and the prices have jumped considerably. EVA 43,000, Thai 62,000. So I started searching. China Eastern doesn't look too bad considering it's 10,000 Baht cheaper. My only concern is the procedure in Shanghai. Will I be a Transit passenger with my luggage checked all the way through or will I have to go through customs with my luggage and then check in again? Has anybody flown with China Eastern to London recently?
If it's the Customs route how long did it tak ..read more
