Passive crossover design advice needed for a 2-way

This is my first time designing a passive crossover, and I'd appreciate your advice on it. I'm designing a 2-way bookshelf speaker with a 6.5" pro audio mid-woofer and a compression driver + horn combo. The on-axis in-room measured response of the CD+horn is below (1/12 octave smoothing): I used a first order crossover @ 8000 Hz for the CD to get a relatively flat frequency response so that I can get away with a single notch filter centered at 1000 Hz with Q value of 1... MonteBianco - DIY speakers

Hi, has anyone tried to build these Italian-designed DIY speakers called "MonteBianco"? They seem cool, and the measurements in the video seem good. I am tempted to build one pair, and I would like to know if someone already has. I don't have any measurement devices, so I wouldn't be able to check the measurements shown in the video. If someone has already built these, has he done some measurements? Do they correlate to the one shown in the video? If someone is... Read more ..read more

Sonos Playbar Input Modification

Looking to Bypass The Sonos Playbar Inputs by wiring in RCAs, Bluetooth (no controller needed), Terminals, Aux by soldering them right into the circuit board. I'm a programmer and not a fan of proprietary software or equipment this playbar should be compatible. People are reselling this 700 dollar soundboard at 100 because it's not compatible and it's a shame to waste them. I have been repairing vintage stereos for a while so feet are wet. Still I think I'm going to need help on this one... Read more ..read more

The beginners guide to setting up CAVA on a Raspberry Pi

What is CAVA CAVA is a software spectrum analyzer for Linux devices. It will happily run on a Raspberry Pi, and here I will show you how to install it as a Roon Endpoint, with CamillaDSP. This post will be split into chunks as I write it. After doing this I tried a different screen and it nuked my system, so this guide is incomplete. I used this OTS part instead of CAVA. See post #8... Read more ..read more

Ultimate Midrange Shootout - in depth analysis

Tip, the video below for those thinking about midrange drivers. Measurements are performed on them. Please note, I do not know in detail how the measurements were carried out. RAW-CAt, as the channel is called, has made several videos about the midrange drivers in the video below. The measurement methodology may be shown in them (videos that I have not seen). For those who are interested, just search that channel about it. The focus on that channel is very much on car stereo... Read more ..read more

"Breaking Speakers' Hoffman iron law"¹: Dual Force Cancellation Subwoofers Vs Magnetic Negative Springs.

I am continuing with my research on how to achieve a cost effective way to create a DIY subwoofer. After the achieved effectiveness of Sonos and their Dual Force Cancellation Subwoofers, it made very difficult to achieve a cost effective way to DIY subwoofer. However, I have found that subwoofers based on "Magnetic Negative Springs" generate the exact similar effect. The opposing forces to the main woofer are created rather magnetically than electromechanically, as the face to face... Read more ..read more

How are headphone drivers typically attached to the baffle?

I’m experimenting with building over-ear headphones (3D printed) and wondering what’s the typical way to attach the driver to the baffle. Let’s say it’s a 50mm driver. I could print a 50mm ring and wedge the driver in. Then put some hot glue around the edge. Or I could print a 54mm ring and squirt silicone glue in the gap. But either way the front-edge of the driver will be touching plastic (even if I leave 2mm in front for excursion, but the front rim of the driver still needs to... Read more ..read more

How to mount certain drivers? (usually subs)

I've found quite a few of woofers that have this foam-looking ring on the outside. How would one mount this to an enclosure cleanly (preferably without exposed screws)? Also, assuming that this is screwed attached on the inside of the enclosure, how would I round the baffle edges? Thanks ..read more

I have already build a Diy dual opposed subwoofer with 12 inch Scan Speak Discovery drivers and Hypex fa501 amp it sound very good. The drivers share a 53 liter volume with a lot of wool to have a higher Qtc. But now i have another pair of the same used Scanspeak drivers. Im planning to bould another Dos subwoofer with the bigger fa502 amp 2x500w@4ohm. Its maybe better to give each woofer his one sealed enclosure with that amp? In parallel conection with the fa501 amp that was not necessary... Read more ..read more
