Going Active - Discrete parts or Hypex Fusions? Hey Folks! I am considering how to go active. I’m a little torn between the Hypex FA253 served by a Wiim Pro Plus (digital output) or a discrete stack that looks roughly like Wiim Pro Plus (digital output) -> MiniDSP Flex HT -> Amps (Example: Fosi v3 Monoblocks). Use case: DIY Active speakers - 2 or 3 ways. Fully digital sources (I own 0 physical media and will not need any ADC) Will likely want to integrate subwoofers. If Flex HT - could... Oscillating/motorboating SE EL84 Amp.

Hey folks! Recently bought myself a single ended E80CC/EL84 amp from a fellow enthusiast. First one I've ever had, and I primarily bought it to use with the Beta 8-loaded Dallas horns I'm building (Follow that bit here). To test the amp I hooked up some of my fathers' cheap logitech satellite speakers. Whatever was there sounded fine, and now knowing it worked I felt confident connecting the Beta 8's just for fun. After a minute or so, I noticed some low-frequency... Read more ..read more

Hi everyone. From an academic sense, I know very little about power amplifiers and circuits. I have learned a great deal about amplifiers from YouTube and the DIY audio community. To gain some understanding of the fundamental construction of a transistor amplifier, I have collected some circuit diagrams related to amplifiers from the internet and some sketches from the PCB. what I have learned or what experience I have gathered, or, you may say, stolen, which I wish to implement on my own... In your experience, which of the following toroidals have been consistently of better quality, regulation and quiet (no buzzing/humming etc): - Antek - Avel Lindberg - Hammond - Triad Magnetics - Toroidy (poland) - Plitron (since they changed hands however, I cannot find their transformers on the web) - Any others ? Is there any you would specifically recommend or specifically eliminate ? Thanks ..read more

So. What started out as upgrading Tridents to my old dual mono 9018s in the previous thread here spiralled rapidly out of control- thanks Franco Largo for providing the temptations and suggestions for optimisation. To be honest its been at the back of my mind for 2-3 years but a bit of free time has finally allowed me to get this project off the ground- The best DAC I can conceive of and build. An added impetus was noticing its a bit of sunset on Twisted Pear Audio, don't know when... Read more ..read more

Android Apps for measurements of loudspeakers

Are there any android apps for measuring loudspeakers? Be it for free or for money? I can use a smartfone as source and another one for measuring frequency response and waterfalls. Distortion is not necessary. Implemented microphones should be enough linear in the mids where it is most important. Highs and lows are always adjusted to taste. The most important region is 200hz to 8khz. Even if integrated mic deviates outside of this band I will find that easily out measuring well... Read more ..read more

Dali Opticon 2 MK2 crossover inductor upgrade

Hi everyone, I have the good Dali Opticon 2 MK2 and would like to upgrade the crossover. Dali is known for addressing the ferromagnetic hysteresis problem in its drivers through the use of the Soft Magnetic Compound (and Dynaudio and ATC also address the problem to be honest). Now, in order to fully benefit from the driver hysteresis reduction, I would like to minimize this problem upstream as well. At the amplifier level I use nCore, so I'm already quite calm because of the post LPF... Read more ..read more
