Getting rid of fire ants
The Hot Pepper

Hello all, Looking for ways to get rid of fire ants in my raised bed. I've used diatomaceous earth and all it does is move the little buggers to a different section. I've also got mulch down, which hides where they move to until I pull up a weed in their area and suddenly all hell breaks loose. I've looked at fire ant killers but it seems that everything says not to use in food gardens. Suggestions ..read more

Not sure if any of you recognize my name, but I'm the guy who insists on growing tropical peppers in a frigid Canadian wasteland. And fails. Over. And over. And over. And over. And over. And over. And over. I think summer falls on a Tuesday this year, so I'm wildly optimistic! I had a bunch of plants started in my basement, waiting for last frost. Then i went away for a week for a work thing, and everything rained for two+ weeks, and the humidity coalesced into the physical form... Read more ..read more

So i live in Norway and the weather forecast says it will rain the entire next week and temps will fall to 8 celsius/ 46 fahrenheit. I do not have a greenhouse or growlights, unfortunately, so i am wondering What to do? Will my chillis survive a week without much light for about a week? I have to add that i grow in 3 and 5 gallon pots, so dont have enough space to have them sitting by a window soaking up the few rays of sun that might appear.. They will be sitting in the attic with two tiny... Read more ..read more

Considering Incorporating Vermicompost for Peppers, Other Vegetables, Figs, etc.
The Hot Pepper

I've been cold composting for about 8 years for my garden vegetables, and frankly the return that I'm getting is not as great as I'd originally hoped for. I recently started looking into vermicomposting, and the more I read about it, the more I like the idea of incorporating it. For those of you who have experience with either vermicomposting and/or cold composting, what have you found to be the pros and cons of each? What proportions would you use worm castings in compared to regular... Read more ..read more

Hey everyone, I'm having issues with 2 of my plants. I transplanted them two weeks ago and since then they've gotten to this state (the Scorpion has also dropped a couple of its lower leaves). When I had them inside they were both doing really well. Also since they've been outside l've had them in mostly shade to help them acclimate to the outdoors. I moved them into the sun today for a few hours and the Reaper really started to droop (already was before but got noticeably worse). My 4 other... Read more ..read more
