Dissertation Flyer.png Hi Everyone, My name is Regina Alabere and I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Memphis. I need assistance with recruiting cancer caregivers for my dissertation project. A little more about me: I became a caregiver at the age of 16 when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was her primary caregiver for four years until she passed. Fast forward years later, my now fiance was diagnosed with a rare skin cancer and we had to navigate radiotherapy and multiple surgeries. My experience has carved my path to understanding cancer caregivers' experiences and using ..read more

Hi there, I am a 4th year medical student working with a team of other medical students on a project aimed at improving post-surgical compression bras for breast cancer patients. Right now, we are in the customer discovery phase, and are seeking to interview patients who have undergone breast surgery to better understand their experiences and challenges faced, especially in the post-operative period. If you would be interested in speaking with us, please message me or comment on this post! This would ideally consist of a < 30 minute Zoom meeting, but we can be flexible and chat over e ..read more

For a patient with early-stage breast cancer who has undergone a lumpectomy and achieved a pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant therapy (TCHP), the chances of recurrence are influenced by several factors, including whether r ..read more

Benefit of Radiotherapy after PCR & lumpectomy?

My wife was diagnosed with hormone positive stage 2 breast cancer around 8 months ago. She took an integrative approach to treatment including diet and lifestyle changes in addition to chemo. She was given a PCR following lumpectomy, her ongoing preventative treatments will include aromatise inhibitor and vitamin C infusions. The questions we are trying to answer are what are the risk benefits of radiotherapy for someone in her situation. The statistics we have found on radiotherapy results/benefits/dangers are generic (all types of breast cancer). Same with the risks. We’d be very grateful ..read more

Hello everyone! I am hoping someone can give me some advice. I had a double mastectomy 2 years ago, with no reconstruction. I have constant tightness across my chest and under my arms. It's like a tight belt around my chest. Sometimes with some burning sensations and a little soreness. My breast surgeon has been of no help. My breast oncologist referred me to a physical therapist. I have had one session so far and I will continue for at least a few more sessions to see if I get any relief. I do not have lymphedema. The therapist thinks this feeling of tightness might have something to do with ..read more

today, they were going to put a port on the left side, but after 3 incisions said the catheter was too short?! WHAT? How is it too short? They put the port on the right. The left side of my neck is really hurting and swollen. I know it will be tender because they were in there, but the swelling has me concerned. of course the port on the right hurts, but not nearly as bad as the left side. Is this normal ..read more
