Fluke? Breakthrough? Adventures in Poodle Manscaping :) Ladyscaping too

I've been home grooming since June of 2018 with varying degrees of success in the end result. The boys are really pretty good for most portions of the clipping but the sani portion has always been a challenge due to logistical reasons. I've been a bit envious of those who are able to just have their pups on their back, belly up, and just lie there, cooperating. To be able to work on a comparatively smooth surface that I could see I thought would be only a dream. Today my dream came true... Fluke? Breakthrough? Just ordered a flying pig dryer for Bravo. Never used one for Zephyr (cafe au lait), but Bravo (black) seems to have a thicker coat. I used my own hair dryer a couple of times, but finally bit the bullet and ordered a stand dryer. Any suggestions for good videos on how to use it ..read more

Bravmini for a puppy?

I'm getting my pupper in 2 weeks, would a bravmini work for trimming his face and paws? They only make a #45 for it, will that be too short and cause issues? Will it cause razor burn? I heard a lot of people use it since it is small and the comb of the blade is closer together so nicking is a bit harder to do. Also, I plan on keeping him in a long coat, will a pin brush and comb be good for that? I don't want to use a slicker because of his thin puppy skin. I have multiple wooden brushes... I found a large mat on one of Lyra’s ears. I’ve been slowly losing the mat battle with coat change and Lyra has gotten shorter and shorter hair cuts. I had managed to keep her topknot and ears under control, as I was brushing and changing hair bands everyday. Well puppies love to play and Lyra plays HARD so after I found the mat I decided to go ahead and cut off the last of the puppy fluff. She is adorable to me of course but I’m still getting used to the new look.[ATTACH... Shaved ears ..read more

Scissoring finns hair isnt cutting it, hes to sensitive to get to where i need to be and be careful deeper in his ear leading to 2 massive matts i didnt know where there to make a long story short; and im never ever making this mistake again And after a vet trip tomorrow he will hopefully be pain free. so how often should i pluck? What is there to consider? He gets dirty ears pretty often and easily and builds up a lot of wax and he grows hair like there is no tomorrow. Within 2 weeks he... When to start wrapping?

I'm currently growing my adult standard poodle into a show coat for juniors. She has about 4 inches of hair on her head and I've just been banding it as needed. I was wondering what the pros & cons are for wrapping vs continuing to band. I'm worried about potential breakage, especially up by her eyes. I'm also worried about the elements. We like to go hiking & live in rainy Washington and I want to protect her coat from that as much as possible. Is there a length of coat where I should... When to start wrapping ..read more

My groomer of over a decade retired and sold the business. I decided to give the new groomer a try. We went for the first time yesterday. The dogs seemed fine. I didn't notice Loki's eye until today when I was petting him and pulling the hair back. Now I am trying to decide if I should go back or if this is just one of those things that happens sometimes ..read more
