Toyger is a play on the words “toy” and “tiger”. This name seemed fitting for the breed because of their stripes that closely resemble that of a tiger. History The origins of the breed began in the 1980s when Judy Sugden–the daughter of Jean Mill, the founder of the Bengal breed–recognized her desire to create a cat with thicker, bolder, more wild-looking stripes than compared to the mackerel tabby pattern that we’re all familiar with. She started by breeding a Bengal... Read more ..read more

The Oriental Shorthair was nicknamed the “honking cat” because of their unique meow that oddly sounds more like a geese’s honk than a cat’s meow! History Oriental shorthairs were created in the United Kingdom during WW2 in an attempt to preserve the Siamese breed. British shorthairs, Russian blues, and Abyssinians were bred to the Siamese to continue the breed. Naturally, many of the kittens were not born with the colorpoint pattern like the Siamese. These cats... Read more ..read more

New here, hoping someone has some good advice. Long story short, we’ve adopted an adult tortoise shell female from a deceased friend. A lot of frustration. At first, we expected my friend to recover and come back home after a couple of months, so rather than go through a full house acclimation with our two adult males, we set her up in the master bedroom, which turned out to be a mistake because my friend passed after a lengthy hospital stay. Now, our orange male tabby (not otherwise... Read more ..read more
