Hi, my name is Sheila. I am trying to find any information I can on my uncle, Troy Allen (from Kentucky), who died on January 26, 1944. He was a 1st Ranger Battalion. In researching, I found that on January 26, 1944, a ship, the LST-422 hit an underwater mine and 454 American soldiers were killed on the Anzio beachhead. If anyone might have known him or know of this ship sinking, I would greatly appreciate any information, because I don't know for sure if he was on that ship. My grandmother,...

In all I've read and documentaries I've ever seen about the Battle of Midway, there is no mention of what happened to all the US fighter planes that were involved that day. Avenger and Devastator torpedo bombers were decimated because of no fighter protection, and the Dauntless dive bombers arrived like the cavalry to save the day. Did all the Wildcat fighters that took off during the battle get lost ..read more

What a superb find-
"General John J. Pershing has a decorated history from his time as "Black Jack" while leading troops in the American-Spanish War and later in his pursuit of Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa.
As the “Iron General,” he may be best known for leading American troops to victory in Europe, but he started as the commander of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.
When the United States entered the war in 1917, a force of 200,000 troops made up the AEF, and they...

"Captain Bob Walker-Brown had parachuted into this remote part of northern Italy with 33 members of the SAS under his command. Their mission was to wreak utter havoc and mayhem in the enemy's rear, so provoking Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, Hitler's commander in chief in Italy, to send in thousands of troops to hunt them down. As the bait in a trap, the SAS commander and his men were poised to launch their first, fearsome ambush.
There was no better man to lead...

Hello, so I was initially looking for information on a serviceman by the name of Virgil Odell Cole. I knew he served in the 770th Bomb Squadron, 462nd Bomb Group but wasn’t sure what his specific job was or whether he served onboard a bomber.
I was able to find a book online that detailed some information on the 462nd. And in it, I found Virgil’s name listed underneath the “13th Photo Lab”. After looking into the 13th photo lab, I was unable to find any information on them or what their...
