Its been a long time since I did a TR report but I thought i'd do one as work is tedious at the moment and I can still type away with my colleagues none the wiser of my buggering around Not much to report really but after weeks and weeks of really terrible Auckland based fishing I coudn't take it any longer and decided to shoot up to the far north (Whatuwhiwhi) for the weekend in the hope of getting some 'satisfaction'. What is everyone using to measure their fish? I used to use a 40cm yellow plastic ruler with a right angle on one end which they were giving away at the boat show. Was really handy but a snapper gave it a flick and sent it over for a swim. Have tried to find something similar but there doesn't seem to be much around. Not really a fan of putting a fish measure sticker on my paddle or even kayak for that matter. Keen to hear what else is around ..read more

Gday all. After getting into fishing through land-based stuff, I think I'm ready to level up to a yak. I currently primarily have a baitunner 8000 & Shimano vortex 7'6" 10-15kg rod which I figure would be best served chucking out straylines or perhaps sitting in the rod holder with a slider lure dragging. Also have a Shimano Sedona 2500 paired with Shimano Catana 7'9" 3-6kg rod which I have used as a trout setup down south.
