350 SBC in '38 Ford overheats

I bought a '38 Ford Tudor with a transplanted '78 Chevy 350. It ran hot when I got it so I pulled the stock radiator, flushed it and the system, and installed two 10" electric fans (that's all that would fit) on the front of the radiator, leaving the fiberglass fan in place on the front of the engine. The electric fans are connected to a toggle and are switched on when needed (I live in Michigan where it's quite cool quite often). I had to put them in a PUSH position rather than PULL because... 350 SBC in '38 Ford overheats ..read more

Dear Hot rodders, I come in a period where I need help with what and how to do things. Hopefully you can help me. After building, welding, exhaust building, brake lines, now fuel lines, engine connections and drive shaft are the next things to worry about. And I notice that there is a lot I don't know. The car: Citroën C4 1932, Fox Body Mustang 302, Volvo 240 rear axle, lots of other car parts. Below are some pictures. The fuel line hardware: Fuel tank is a reproduction for a Mustang... Heater hose bypass

I have a 1980 El Camino with a 385 SBC. It is a non A/C car and due to a bad door in the heater box my heat is on all the time. I was looking at a non bypass shut off valve to put in the inlet hose to the heater core, but first would like to know if that will cause any engine cooling issues since the heater circuit will no longer circulate if the valve is shut off. Are there other options aside from disconnecting the heater core and looping the hoses? I like the idea of the non bypass... Heater hose bypass ..read more

Blower ratio and intake temp

Curious on what y’all might think intake air temps might be on a 8.5:1 SBC with a Weiand 177, a 2.65:1 drive ratio and 90 degree ambient temp? What’s too hot? I went ahead and installed a Glowshift dual temp sensor kit. One sensor in the air cleaner hat and the other in the intake manifold runner to cylinder number one. I drilled and tapped both for the sensors. After installing it I realized this was a kit for fluid temp, not air temp!! I should have known by the temp sensor design... Lower control arm U-bolts

I think someone touched on this a while back, but not sure. I'm taking apart the front end of my '56 Chevy 3100 with a '71-'72 C10 front end. I want to replace old hardware, and discovered that the U-bolts I removed that hold the lower control arm in place are 7/16" thread. I ordered replacements from Speedway without specifying the size (just the year) and got 9/16". I think someone on the forum mentioned drilling out the pieces for a 1/2", which should be ok, but I think 9/16" would be too... Lower control arm U-bolts ..read more

Looking for component suggestions for HVAC in a Fiat Topolino. The system has to be about half the size of a vintage air micro. Preferably manual cables as I just had to do a field repair on a blend door motor in the truck (zip ties and mechanics wire) The compressor, condenser, H-valve and drier are the easy parts. It's the evap core, air handler, etc ..read more

Flapping noise

Took the roadster for a short road test, about 100 miles. When under load there is a "flapping" noise which sounds like a flat tire...but it's not. New tires and just had them balanced. Noise only happens under power and not coasting. Seems to be speed driven. When I got home I shot the temps with rear end being 120 degrees or so and outer bearing at abut 115 degrees. U-joints about the same or a bit cooler. Any ideas? Drivetrain is 1994 LT1, 4L60E trans and 1999 Explorer 8.8 rear... Flapping noise ..read more
