Hello guys, I'm starting a reddit devlog series (cause I'm too lazy to do Youtube), where I will talk about how I plan to make one of my dream games and how I'll be working on some smaller games to get the hang of game development, in this post I'll be going over the dream game and one of the small game projects that I'll be working on. For the dream game I came up with the ultra original idea of a 2d roguelike metroidvania where you play as a sentient computer virus and battle through a fortress to hopefully take over the central computer, to do this you are able to take over the machines in ..read more

I've released my first commercial game, and now I need to make people aware that it exists. This, I have found incredibly difficult. So far I have reached out to all the small YouTube channels I can find, none of them have yet shown any interest in free copies of the game. Posts on all the major social media sites have only been good for a handful of views. I have just about run out of funds, so there is no money for ads, or for bribes to major YouTube channels. The game itself is a relatively simple chess variant. I basically added a few other strategy game features, but nothing that would s ..read more

Newbie question about game engines

I'm just getting into game development, and my main inspiration is Hotline Miami. I want to make a game with combat that feels as similar to that game as possible. Now the sensible thing would be to use Gamemaker because it's what Hotline Miami was coded in. Here's the question. I've read in forums that what game engine you use does not matter, but what you do with it. Does this mean that if you fine-tune the code well enough, you can make a game coded in Godot have the same combat feeling to the point where it's indistinguishable whether it was coded in Godot or Gamemaker? If anything else i ..read more

Just started making animations for a simple scroller on Unity and I’m completely new to coding and game dev in general, my goal is to just have an enemy and a boss for the character to smack with 2 or 3 moves and the enemy has 1 attack and for the boss to have 3-5 attacks. If anyone knows a good place to start learning this kind of thing I would really appreciate some guidance, most tutorials I find are more for platformers/cooking etc. I’m using asesprite for the anims btw idk if that matters! :) submitted by /u/Fran_Marci [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

After 2 years of work, I released my game today The Black Within. Regardless of what happens now, I feel a sense of freedom to finally release my first game to the world. If even one person resonates with the story I tried to tell in this game, I would have achieved my goal :)

I already am familiar with the UI and basic controls. I am trying to learn stuff like how blueprints work, how to change 3d characters, how to add animations, etc. I have watched some videos but they just show how to do it rather than properly explaining what they are doing. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you submitted by /u/Gsdevil [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
