What is National Nurses Week? National Nurses Week, a time to honor nurses’ dedication and expertise, has a rich history. The idea began in 1953 with a proposal for a “Nurse Day.” A year later, a week was dedicated to nurses in honor of Florence Nightingale. However, it wasn’t permanent.
