Martin Barre gives Tull catalog a fresh take on tour
Boston Herald

You can check out of Jethro Tull any time you like, but you can never leave. Lead guitarist Martin Barre parted with the band in 2011, after playing alongside frontman Ian Anderson for more than four decades. On Wednesday at City Winery he’ll present his own, more guitar-centric version of Tull’s musical history. “I’m quite a determined and obstinate person,” he said from his home in England this week. “So I’ve taken up the flag, and I know that sounds a bit romantic — but I think the brand of Jethro Tull needs to be flown high, if that’s not too mixed a metaphor. I’m very proud of what we did ..read more

Senior dog has changes in vision
Boston Herald

Dear Dr. John, Our mixed breed dog is almost 10, and he seems to struggle somewhat when we walk him at night. He does not seem to notice certain things or movements the way he used to. We took him to our vet who pointed out cloudiness in the middle of his eyes. She told us that it was a common aging change in the lenses of the eyes for which nothing could be done. We were informed that it was not cataracts. What is this condition? Will this progress? We were told he would not go blind. Is there anything that might have been done to prevent or delay the eye changes? C.T. Dear C.T., Cloudy dog e ..read more

Dear Abby: Divorcee on the hunt for a ‘good man’
Boston Herald
by Abigail Van Buren

Dear Abby: I am sad that I haven’t found a long-lasting husband. I’m divorced, and my previous relationships and marriage look like intentional hits. I’m not sure what brought this on. I’m in my 40s and I still would like a man in my life. The men I’ve met all seem to enjoy having their homes to themselves. It’s kind of frightening. Some female friends have told me that the good ones are already taken, so I’m waiting for a divorce to happen. Should I try online dating? Do you think I should reach out to another state for someone? — Impatient in Pennsylvania Dear Impatient: Stop waiting for a d ..read more

Boston Herald
by Rich Thompson

Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery described goaltender Jeremy Swayman as a difference maker. Savior would have been a more accurate description. Swayman made 30 saves to lead the Bruins to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of their Stanley Cup playoffs opening round series on Saturday night at the TD Garden. David Pastrnak’s goal at 1:54 secured Swayman’s fourth win in six starts. The Bruins advanced to the confernce semifinals and will face the Florida Panthers on Monday night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla. “I am so happy for him and I expected it from him ..read more

David Pastrnak lifts Bruins over Leafs in Game 7 OT , 2-1
Boston Herald
by Steve Conroy

The Bruins never made it easy on themselves, but they did not choke on Saturday night. Not this time. In a heart-stopping Game 7, David Pastrnak swooped in on Hampus Lindholm’s perfect dump-in in the right corner, cut to the net and beat Ilya Samsonov with a backhander at 1:54 of overtime, lifting the B’s to a 2-1 victory and a second round date with the Florida Panthers. Lindholm had tied the game in the third period. Coach Jim Montgomery asked for his star to step up after Game 6. And Pastrnak delivered. So did Jeremy Swayman. He made 30 saves to win his first career playoff series. The game ..read more

Ilya Samsonov to go back in Maple Leafs’ net for Game 7
Boston Herald
by Steve Conroy

In a rather shocking turn of events, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to go back to goalie Ilya Samsonov in net for Saturday’s Game 7. Word started to filter out in the early evening tat goalie Joseph Woll, who had given up just two goals in seven-plus periods to the Bruins, was banged up and would not play. The second goal he allowed with less than a second to Morgan Geekie appeared to be a meaningless tally in what turned out to be a 2-1 Toronto win in Game 6 at Scotiabank Arena. Maybe it wasn’t so meaningless after all, if that is in fact where Woll got hurt. Martin Jones was set to back u ..read more

Kevin Spacey, the Oscar-winning actor, has denied new allegations of inappropriate behavior from men who will feature in a documentary on British television that is due to be released next week. In an online interview with journalist Dan Wootton, Spacey said he has never done anything illegal and admitted that he has struggled to get back to work after being acquitted last year of criminal charges in a London court. “I can’t go through this again, allowing myself to be baselessly attacked without defending myself,” he said in the interview entitled “Kevin Spacey: Right Of Reply” which was aire ..read more

Mexico recovers 3 bodies, likely of missing American and Australian tourists
Boston Herald
by Associated Press

Three bodies recovered in an area of Mexico’s Baja California state are likely to be those of the two Australians and an American who went missing last weekend during a camping and surfing trip, the state prosecutor’s office said Saturday. While there has not yet been confirmation based on forensic examination, physical characteristics — including hair and clothing — means there is a high likelihood that the bodies are those of the three tourists, local TV network Milenio reported, citing chief state prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez. “It is presumed that (the bodies) are the ones being i ..read more

Britney Spears said she’s moving to Boston
Boston Herald
by Flint McColgan

Pop icon Britney Spears announced she may be shipping up to Boston. “I’m moving to Boston !!! Peace,” Spears wrote at the bottom of a note screenshot shared on her Instagram on Thursday. The note could hardly be described as focused, nor could her declaration for a move to Boston be seen as plainly truthful. The 42-year-old “…Baby One More Time” and “Toxic” singer recently made headlines again after she settled out of court on April 26 with her father, Jamie Spears, over the remaining concerns over the conservatorship that controlled her life and financial decisions for more than a decade. “Al ..read more

Twins have longest win streak since 1980 after 3-1 victory over Red Sox
Boston Herald
by Gabrielle Starr

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins beat the Red Sox 3-1 on Saturday to extend their winning streak to 12 games, their longest since 1980. Before the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora admitted it was getting difficult to sustain multiple starting pitchers on the injured list. “They’re not fun,” he said of the too-frequent bullpen games. But while he may be counting the days until he gets Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello back from the injured list, the bullpen hasn’t been the problem. The bats have gone ice cold. Minnesota entered the day worse than American League average in hits, home runs and strik ..read more
