For a change no rain on this day, I was early out an enjoyed the relatively clear skies.
Goal for the day was to catch a trout on a dry fly, preferably on a mayfly pattern.
On my way to the stream I noticed a red kite flying over, never seen one so close
to the border.
At the stream I first made a stop at my old honey hole and was again disappointed
as usual as there where no decent fish about.
The spot used to be good for the one or other trout but this season it has been
empty of any fish species except gudgeons.
After a few futile attempts it was on to another mark.

We arrive in Livingston early next week for a week and I am trying to plan out a couple of fishing expeditions. I have never fished the spring creeks and will likely find them all booked but will make those calls today. I plan to get in at least two floats in the areas in the title, particularly Missoula where I have fished five times in the past.
That said, I do like doing walk & wade. I will do some DIY but always think it more efficient to shorten the learning curve and hiring local experience. Yeah, costs $$$ but YOLO.

Have been to the Cape for donkey’s years in the spring but never in the fall. Will be staying in Pleasant Bay in early Oct…very close to the inlet.
Not a fishing trip, just my wife and I, so will only be able to fish in front of our rental. Have no idea what to expect for bait or flies to use..

A question from my adult nephew about said trout, and whatever else he might find from shore (fresh or salt) within a couple of hours of Seattle.
What constitutes a good outfit for cutts from shore? And what other fish are worth chasing from shore in that area?
California halibut, but does anything else come to mind ..read more

Hi. New member here.
I'm looking for advice on a 9wt that will work for a saltwater trip, but also double as a rod for pike fishing?
I'm staying in the UK and there aren't many 9wts available to try.
So looking for a rod that will be good for flats fishing but also able to handle some heavier sinking lines and big flies.
I don't really have a budget, just looking for what will suit best.

Anybody got any tips on places to fish on Assateague Island, Maryland? I'm familiar with the ocean side of the island, not so much the bay side. I've seen plenty of surfcasters using conventional tackle, but I've never seen anybody there with a fly rod. I know summer is not prime striper season in this area, but they will return in the fall. In the meantime, there should be bluefish and other species around ..read more

Hey All,
My Father will be taking my 14 yr old daughter up to the Jay Peak area of VT next week. He would like to get here out for some small stream fishing for Brookies.... Not looking for specific spots but does anyone have a good stream recommendation for that area? This is both mine and my daughters Favorite type of fishing (Wild Brook Trout Blue Lining) but unfortunately I can not join them on this trip to help guide....
Greatly appreciate any feedback you are willing to share.

Need line recs for the cape cod flats. I’m mostly a two handed guy but I feel that will be a hindrance on calmer flats. Line will be going on a 9wt Helios. Unless an 8wt rod is better suited for that style of fishing I have a Helios 3. Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone needs help with their steelhead game I’d be more than happy to reciprocate.  ..read more
