I think I’m ready to stop (forced to?) using my horses grazing muzzle. His front teeth are starting to wear from it sadly.
He is at an amazing weight, ribs felt easily no fat pads etc.
I started using it 2 years ago as he was a chunk! He is in a lot of work and is pretty fit ( we event when they aren’t getting cancelled due to bad weather )
He is out at night with my mare and she has fairly eaten my field down, this is what has kind of prompted me to think about removing the muzzle.
Now...

I have to clip my very heavy feathered horse his feathers off, for a medical reason, he is good with clippers but I have never taken thick feathers off like this and to be honest don't quite know where to start. I have asked for a friend to help I suspect it is going to be a two man job. I have very good clippers but would you cut the long hair off before you start ? Would you start by running the clippers down the leg to start with? I have looked at You tube but they only show horses with...

Hi all, I am possibly purchasing a horse from a local contact so not from a dealer. I have never bought as an adult so not sure on what to expect! I’m told the horse had a suspensory injury last year but is back in work following a successful rehab programme from the vet etc. I’m going to ask for more details but not sure what is standard practice! Two questions:
1. Is it normal for one owner’s vets to send details of an injury and treatment to another’s before purchasing so we can make...

Having recently lost one of my silkies I was down to one and felt very sorry for her as it was obvious she was lonely so placed an order for three new ones. I was a bit concerned that she would feel overwhelmed by them and even more so when they arrived. Only 15-16 weeks older but looked bigger than her, she is very small. I was wrong, she is now bullying one of the young ones, the gold one, and has the poor thing terrorised so she is now back on her own and very grumpy about it. I am...

Approached by someone who lives local to me ( not particularly a friend just know her,)Would I look at one of her elderly ponies as it is very skinny (you can see spine and ribs points of hips clearly she says) as she is concerned about how skinny it is.
I asked how old 26 small pony shettie type.apparently eating high calorie mash but leaving half and not gaining weight after the winter.
I didn't particularly want to look at it as
It is so easy to get pulled in but said I would do a worm...

Rant alert!
I'm selling my logging harness that came with my horse. We don't use it and she's getting on a bit, so I thought I'd make a bit of room in the tack room.
So I created an advert on FB clearly stating location, price and size. So far I've had messages like 'Price?', 'location?' (that one really annoyed me as I responded politely with my location and got "too far" in response. I did say in my ad that I could organise courier delivery but I didn't bother responding to that) and...

My elderly fit and well pony had started not finishing his night net and we found the odd piece quided on the floor. We had the dentist out on May 12th and he removed a tooth Jake struggled to eat despite Bute. The dentist came out again and said removing the first tooth had removed the support for the second so it would need to come out too. He came back on the 25th by then he had started to eat hay and was managing the grass well so we questioned whether the second removal was necessary...

I've seen this and similar posts from other owners being posted over social media and I'm shocked.
I've never met the person being accused....and who will find it very hard to justify the obvious neglect!....but followed him on fb and insta and from his posts I would never have suspected him of being capable of the level of neglect that is visible in the photo's and videos which shows that you can never truly know anyone from their social media profile.
A lot of people have asked on the...

Apologies if this is a daft question, but is there much difference between between the Wiesencobs and the Alpengrun pellet? Both seem to be suitable for horses with digestive issues, high fibre, but provide energy? Currently feeding the latter but wondering if the cobs would essentially be the same but lower calorie ..read more
