CDP101 sled has a mind of it's own

I have a CDP101 here which originally was refusing to have it's drawer stay closed. After some cleaning up, resoldering and regressing it now accepts a disc and detects on is in place. I have tested all limit switches for the drawer. Anyway, the sled mechanism itself is really just doing its own thing. It will never stay in the 'home' position even after a reset. When I insert a cd the player is trying to detect it, I can see the laser going up and down. But the sled is sat at the... Read more ..read more

M-70 in Protection

So first, there was this: No problem, replaced the caps and now the optocoupler 1.2V is good and the 70V is good. Still in protection. Then I removed all the corrosive glue and components on the B power supply. Now it’s working great and B +/- are steady. Still in protection. I had 2V on the left channel, unadjustable. Pull the predriver card and a 220 ohm for the rail is toast. Fine. I replace all transistors except for the funky package ones on that... Read more ..read more

I am thinking of buying a Marantz PM 8004. I notice on the bay some units from Japan are listed as 100 volts. Also some are shown as 120 volts. Why is this? Would the 100 volt model not work here in the U.S ..read more

Hello I am pretty new to electronics as a hobby and have been gathering equipment for testing , I managed to find a Heath kit IT-18 for checking transistors . I am seeing they also sell a Transistor withstand voltage tester , it's a fairly inexpensive and most guys using it seem to feel it's useful for checking transistors /diodes/ caps and such . Is this something that will be useful or will the IT-18 do the very same thing . seems the withstand voltage tester uses much higher voltage... Read more ..read more

Picked up one of these a few weeks ago. Display was working and scope was not. Took a look under the covers and the main power board had been worked on. Diodes were replaced and a resistor. The resistor was burnt to a crisp and one of the diode sets broke after just barely touching it. Redid the entire board, every part new. After hooking back up the display came on right away and looked way better (brighter). The scope also came back to life, although its about 50 years old and not as... Read more ..read more
