Labhair mé le Nichola Oman ó Na Gaeil Óga CLG faoin dushslán atá roimh an gclub a bheith in ann forbairt mar ba mhaith leo. Ba chóir go mbeadh sé seo ina ábhar do Aire Stáit na Gaeltachta Thomas Byrne - agus is Aire Stáit é do Ghnóthaí Spóirt freisin dar ndóigh! Politics IE Forum

Mexico is set to vote in a new President on Sunday and polls indicate Mexico is on course to elect its first female President. Mexican Presidents are constitutionally bound to single six year terms. Leading in the polls by double digits is Claudia Sheinbaum, who has a Ph. D in energy from Mexico’s national university. Her Jewish faith has not been a campaign issue in this largely Catholic country. Sheinbaum is the choice and preferred successor of the incumbent President, Manuel Lopez... Read more ..read more

I have been following this election last few days here is the tracker NPE Results Dashboard 2024 Terrible day for ANC likely down 16-7% mostly to Zuma's new party. It will have to enter coalition and that might cause a split South Africa: Zuma’s new party upends election as ANC reels from vote collapse I think they thought might dip under 50 and get small parties on board. This will be an interesting election for SA ..read more

Hi! It's been a disappointing few years for Fianna Fáil but the party appears to be turning a corner and consolidating it's position as the lead opposition party in the opinion polls after being heavily (and unfairly) punished in the last GE by the electorate for having to take the really tough decisions to put the country back on track. Indeed the agreement at the recent EU summit is being milked for all it's worth by the FG/Lab axis when in fact it was Fianna Fáil that started the whole... Read more ..read more

The High Court issued an injunction stopping the dismissal of SFI CEO Philip Nolan until a full hearing of the matter tomorrow afternoon (who says the wheels of justice turn slowly ?) The Court was told there was an “orchestrated attempt” to block reforms at SFI. Prof Nolan said he was “devastated” to be told last Monday that the SFI board had decided with no warning to terminate his position without giving him an opportunity to address certain allegations. Birdwatchers from across Ireland and the UK have been making their way to the village of Belcarra in Co Mayo, to catch a glimpse of a species rarely seen in Ireland that has migrated to the area. A North American bird - the yellow-crowned night heron - has been spotted in the area, the first time it has been seen in Ireland and only the second time it has been recorded in Europe. It is believed the bird may have arrived in the village, near Castlebar, after getting caught up in the... Read more ..read more

Alister Campbell who was PM Blair's PR adviser told Pat Kenney on Newstalk that history could be repeated with a splitting of the Labour vote by the Liberals that gives the Tories a big general election majority as happened with PM Thatcher. The latter's victory was based on about 35% of the vote as the Tories went up the middle under first past the post voting system. The Liberals' resurgence as shown in the EU parliamentary elections and Labour leader Corbyn's low opinion poll ratings... Read more ..read more

The Fall of Constantinople to the Muslim Turks....571st anniversary

29th May, 1453. Constantinople had the most impregnable walls known to Christendom....literally. However, beyond the walls, it had lost the Christian heartland. And hence, the Fall was almost an inevitability. The failures of King & clergy, to keep the place christian, would eventually come back to haunt them. There is no military victory without a corresponding victory in an ideological war. And subsequently ? Kamal Ataturk attempted to establish a secular Republic in Turkey... Read more ..read more
