Welcome back to #TravelThursday. Last week I wrote about my trek eastward along U.S. 82 across the southern part of Arkansas. It was my first such trip in this part of Arkansas (east of Texarkana) in my life. As I wrote last week – Arkansas has a nice and well-maintained U.S. 82 that was recently modernized, repaved, and restriped. I made it to El Dorado (from Wichita Falls Texas) on the afternoon of Day 14 – having driven 366 miles. It was my most-driven day of my 18-day retirement road-trip between South Central Florida and North Texas. I checked-in to my hotel for the night along U.S. 82 Bu ..read more

Greetings my friends. It is Wednesday May 29TH 2024, and with this special edition I begin a new weekend of blog posts. Normally I publish new posts 3 times per weekend – on Thursdays, Sundays, and Mondays at 0300 U.S. east coast time. Each day has its own unique theme. My Thursday posts center on travel. My Sunday posts center on Scripture and the Gospel. My Monday posts center on current Christian pop music. So – my hashtags are #TravelThursday, #SundayScripture, and #MusicMonday. A few times per year I’ll publish a special post on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday. It all adds up to over 150 ..read more

Memorial Day

It’s Memorial Day here in the U.S.A. It’s not appropriate to say “Happy Memorial Day”, for this is a truly solemn holiday. It’s the day each year that we honor our fallen heroes – those military personnel who served their country in a time of war – and who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep our freedom strong. They gave their life. This is not a day for those like me who once served in the U.S. Armed Forces, for I am still alive. My day is Veterans Day on November 11TH. It is not a day for those who are currently serving in the military. That day is Armed Forces Day – the 3RD Saturday of May ..read more

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 26TH 2024, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself. I got to host / entertain my little brother (age 49) for 7 days recently, and one of those days was a Sunday – last Sunday. He attended our service at my home church here in Sebring. It was the first time ever that he attended a non-Catholic service with me, and it may have been his first-ever non-C ..read more

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. Last week I wrote about spending 8 days with my family in Wylie Texas and a day with another part of my family in the Wichita Falls Texas area. I got to experience the total solar eclipse in my family’s backyard. I’ll remember that event for the rest of my life. Maybe I’ll be around for a 2ND such event in 2045 when I’m 78. I’m up to Day 14 now, and it’s time to head back towards the great state of Florida, but first I have another 1,432 miles to go over the next 5 days. U.S. 82 would be my favored route eastward out of Wichita Falls and across North Texas, Sou ..read more

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 19TH 2024, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself. Last weekend I began writing a brand-new sermon. Its tentative title is “Music & Lyrics”. It’ll be how God used music to rescue and save me, and how His lyrics – whether in a pop song on the radio or a Psalm in His Word – can change a life forever. For the next several months – I’m presenting th ..read more

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. Last week I wrote about my Thursday afternoon in downtown Marshall Texas where I visited the historic Starr Family Home, the Harrison County Historical Museum, and finally – Pazzeria By Pietro’s. After that – I checked-in to my hotel for the night. It was very difficult to find, as it was hidden deep from the main thoroughfare (U.S. 59) behind a lot of road construction in an awkward location alongside I-20 eastbound near the dead end of a frontage road. But I eventually found it, and it would be my 4TH and final night in a row in a hotel room. The next morning ..read more

Happy Armed Forces Week

It’s Wednesday May 15TH 2024, and National Military Appreciation Month continues here in the U.S.A. with Armed Forces Week (all this week), and that culminates this Saturday with Armed Forces Day. Unlike Memorial Day (this year on May 27TH) and Veterans Day (November 11TH) – this is an opportunity for us to honor everyone who currently serves within our military. I recently retired from a nearly 39-year career with the United States Air Force. I actually committed to 4 years of active-duty service about a month into my Senior year in high school in 1984. 6 days after graduating from high scho ..read more
