SCADA and HV/LV distribution substation automation

Hello! I wish to thank you for the time and consideration you give to my question. I need to know if it is possible for an Electric Utility to use SCADA from a Dispatch Center to automate their HV/LV distribution substations. In the Dispatch Center, dispatchers can supervise substations by receiving data (e.g. transformers loading, currents, voltages, etc.), and control HV switchgears and LV circuit breakers in the substation by having the possibility to open/close them remotely... Hello! I am looking for a solution how to deal with such problem: SattCon 125 controller stopped with "parameter error" on the display, probably because of the low battery (the battery now is replaced). And I cannot find any manuals for this kind of PLC. How to start the controller? A great thanks in advance ..read more

Re: Why do you pay for PLC programming software?

A common PLC language would allow vendors to compete for development systems with a level playing field. In theory, the end result would be dramatically improved development software. Remember Taylor or ICOM? ICOM competed with A-B and had a very nice product (still the best I have ever seen, IMHO). Bill ..read more

Hello, I want to install an energy meter to monitor the energy consumption of a transformer. The secondary side of this transformer is a parallel circuit, making it impossible to connect three current transformers (CTs) to the three phases of the secondary side. The challenge is that I need to measure six points, which requires six current transformers. Is it possible to connect two current transformers to a single input of the energy meter ..read more

Plasma cutter disconnects USB (Isolator?)

This topic is not new, but I felt some here might have good insight. I have a plasma cutting CNC table that I built using a cheap control board (MKS DLC32 V2.1). I noticed that when I fire the plasma torch it disconnects the control board from the computer which is linked via a sheilded USB. I've had some luck preventing the interference by wrapping the torch lead and motor driver wires in tinfoil, and running a ground wire from the z-axis mechanism to the control board's power supply case...
