April 15, 2024  Newberry City Council approved the recommendations of the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee during their meeting on Tuesday. Motion to approve the recommendations was made by Councilperson Lemont Glasgow and seconded by Councilperson Jackie Holmes. SC Clay Conference Described as Record-Breaking Year

April 15, 2024 The eighth annual South Carolina Clay Conference held in February was a record-breaking year, Director of Programming Marquerite Palmer shared with City Council on Tuesday. Palmer described this year’s event as the most successful conference so far with 91 registered to attend the conference with a waiting list. Registered attendees included people from Alabama, California, Iowa, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and all over South Carolina. Time for Pork in the Park

April 12, 2024 Pork in the Park is back this year and will take place on Friday, April 19 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event will take place in Memorial Park and the surrounding downtown area. Back this year is the Friday night portion of the event, allowing vendors to sell their product for an additional day. March 19, 2024 City utility staff received a visit Tuesday, March 19 from Gregg Griffin, general manager of the Bamberg Board of Public Works. Griffin presented several staff members with a plaque in appreciation of mutual aid assistance following a recent tornado that affected their community. February 14, 2024 The Newberry Police Department will soon see a new juvenile crime prevention sergeant in Khadijah Caldwell, as she’s recently been promoted from her former position of corporal. February 2, 2024 The Newberry County Career Center has a new addition to the fire program thanks to a donation from the Newberry Fire Department. The department recently donated their former Engine 2 (1996 International) to the career center for use in their training of their fire program students. January 29, 2024 Newberry will soon welcome an influx of visitors for the eighth annual South Carolina Clay Conference (SCCC), and pottery sale held this year on February 23-24 at the Old Newberry Hotel. The conference is being held at the Edward Kyzer Newberry Firehouse Conference Center. Both Whitaker Funeral Home and Prosperity Metal Recycling (PMR) in Newberry were recognized by the department and thanked for their partnership, Chief Gene Shealy said.
