When you couldn't be stuffed doing proper tasks it's an opportune time to pretend to look like you're actually busy at work by writing up a fishing trip report from the weekend After weeks of weather ranging from OK to totally unplayable last Sunday's weather, although bloody cold, was looking cracker and ideal to take the Blue Viper out wide for a nice long slow conditioning paddle. After a piss poor nights sleep filled with much anticipation the jarring alarm went off at 5am. A quick load up and a cup of coffee and I was rolling out of the driveway by 5.20am and heading 45km north to Marti ..read more

Its been a long time since I did a TR report but I thought i'd do one as work is tedious at the moment and I can still type away with my colleagues none the wiser of my buggering around Not much to report really but after weeks and weeks of really terrible Auckland based fishing I coudn't take it any longer and decided to shoot up to the far north (Whatuwhiwhi) for the weekend in the hope of getting some 'satisfaction'. It turned out to be a great decision. Managed to get to Whatuwhiwhi and on the water by 3pm on the Friday arvo. Conditions were somewhat breezier than forecast with the wind ..read more

I'm using part of a fabric tape measure... I just chop another metre off it when I need a new one. https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/fuller-f ... e/p/273160 It is relatively cheap, relatively durable and it can be tied to the kayak if you feel the need to. Regards, Rob ..read more

Not sure if anyone reads these anymore and I'm not a big facebook user!! Nor have I been on the kayak much this year, but managed a couple of nights camping/kayak fishing end of last week with one of my boys. We had planned to stay at Fantail Bay but DOC has closed the northern Coromandel campgrounds for the foreseeable future. It forced us to try a new spot, and that was camping at Otautu Bay Farm campground, just North of Colville. We had planned to base ourselves there and drive up the coast to fish, but after arriving late Wednesday morning and setting up camp, we decided after talking to ..read more
