After a year of playing “outside” of the offensive formation Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is heading back to the slot. Newly hired offensive coordinator Liam Coen has stated he plans on Godwin playing the “majority” of his snaps in the slot position.
So how does Godwin feel about returning to the slot? Tuesday Godwin spoke about the move and how he’s looking forward to it.
“I think what I learned over the last four or five years, I’m really comfortable there,” Godwin stated, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “And obviously I feel like I have a lot of versatility p ..read more

Tykee Smith – B+
The Bucs wanted to improve in coverage going into this season. The pass defense was picked apart far too often last year as the team switched from primarily man coverage, to more zone heavy. Changes had to be made in the secondary.
We saw this with the trade of Carlton Davis. Now Zyon McCollum is expected to step in and start as someone who fits the direction of the de ..read more

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made Antoine Winfield Jr. the highest paid defensive back in the NFL. It wasn’t a move that was surprising to those who follow the Buccaneers closely. Winfield Jr. has established himself as possibly the best safety in the game today and a leader on this team.
General manager Jason Licht went as far as to call him a guy who is on a hall of fame track. These are strong words from the front office and writing him that check only emphasized their belief in this young super star. But how much of that statement was hyperbole?
Is Winfield the next great safety in this l ..read more

On this episode of the RBLR Bucs Podcast the guys react to Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr’s contract and how it reset the market value.
This deal is well deserved considering how well Winfield Jr has been playing since entering the league in 2020. He was a major component of their Super Bowl run and had a season for the ages in 2023. Six sacks, six forced fumbles (led the league), 3 interceptions, and 12 passes defended. All of which were career highs for him and what led him to his first all-pro nomination.
He has become not just the highest paid safety, but the highest paid defensive ..read more

Ok, just like last year, I understand the Buccaneers have none the opponents well in advance of the schedule coming out. However, just like what I said last year, I think the order you play the opponents and also when you play them (be it Thursday or Monday) affects things. So, let’s see what I get completely wrong (and also still arrive at the solution).
Week 1 vs Commanders- Win
This is a bit of a weird one. On the one hand, all the available facts seem to suggest this will be an easy win for the Bucs. They have a rookie QB, a mediocre head coach, bad o-line, and a not-great defense. However ..read more

Wednesday night NFL teams across the league released their 2024 season schedules. While Buccaneers fans have known the opponents for weeks, this was when they finally learned when the Bucs would face each of their opponents. This might not seem especially important, but it’s not always about who you play, but rather when you play then.
The revealed schedule gave me a lot of thoughts. It also gave me a clear picture of what my expectations for the Bucs should be this season, like a natural road map to the playoffs. Here are my initial thoughts of the Buccaneers 2024 schedule.

As we begin to see Buccaneers rookies sign their contracts and for the team to get closer to its final form, what better time than to have some speculation on these rookies?
The Bucs had a very solid draft, according to most experts inside and outside the Bucs community. With that comes the expectation that we will have several impact starters. Graham Barton is expected to be the starting center, Chris Braswell will likely start at the edge at some point in the season, Jalen McMillan will compete for WR3 and could even replace Chris Godwin a year later, and Bucky Irving will be RB2. This doesn ..read more
