When are firestop pipe collars required

I am preparing to install a radon mitigation system, and need more specific definition re: where firestop pipe collars are required for PVC pipe. Situation 1: PVC pipe extends vertically in a basement utility room with no sheet rock on the ceiling. It extends into the attic and out the roof (or out the side of the house). Is a collar required? Situation 2: PVC pipe extends from basement thru sheetrocked ceiling and into sheetrocked garage. Is a collar required on both sheetrocked... Read more ..read more

Planning to mount an American Standard Clinic Service Sink 9512999 to the garage wall. Anyone khow the Chair Carrier is mounted and what it does? (I do not have one.) The sink would have 3/4-inch bolts going through the 2x4 sole plate __|___ of the laundry room wall. The laundry room floor is two feet higher than the garage floor. Where the 3/4" bolts go through the sink's 7/8" mounting holes, I plan to wrap many layers of ductape to make the bolts snug and... Read more ..read more

29 or 30 inch alcove tub?
Terry Love Forums » Plumbing Professional & DIY Advice

I've got an alcove tub I'm looking to replace, and it measures 28" from the current tile to the edge and 28.5" from the drywall to the edge. I know most standard tubs are 30", but I'm not sure where the extra 1.5" would be from after measuring from the drywall. Anyway, is it more likely to be 30 inch or 29 based on the above measurements ..read more

Hi, I am in the process of DWV plumbing for upstairs renovation. Originally I had the washing machine tying in upstairs, but I am going to need to move as it will affect wet vent venting of one the downstream wet vented toilets. I am not able to tie it in upstairs and so will need to tie it on a horizontal branch located in the basement. I have two main horizontal branch drains in the basement. The branch I plan on tying the WM into consists of two kitchen sinks. One kitchen sink is vented... Read more ..read more

Pipe material for yard/storm drain (PVC or ABS)

I'm doing a yard drain and the initial planning is to use 4 inch SDR35 pipe but due to the property is rather flat, it is hard to get 1/8" drop. My next step is to use smaller pipe, either two of the 2 inch PVC connected using wye or one 3 inch pipe. Unfortunately it is rather difficult to find a store that carry 3 inch PVC pipe, one store wanted $118 for a 10 footer! The big box stores carry only ABS for 3 inch. What would you recomend? I never seen anyone using ABS for storm drain, is it... Read more ..read more

Belly or less than normal slope?

Getting my basement finished and had my sewer line cameraed to get ahead of any issues. It's 4 inch PVC under slab installed in 2020 by a company I no longer have confidence in. The camera identified a belly in a section of the pipe that was holding water and submerged the camera, but minimal waste. Plumber initially said not to fix it, but I'm worried about it causing a problem later and having to rip out a portion of the newly finished basement. It's accessible and easy to get to now, if... Single to double bathroom vanity sink

Hey all, I am doing a bathroom remodel where I am moving from a single vanity to a double vanity. After looking around at other posts about how to properly setup the draining for the sinks, I have not been able to find a post similar to my scenario. I have the vent stack off the the left in an adjacent wall where I am not 100% sure if my suggested idea in the picture below is the best option. This is currently what I have, but going to a double vanity I believe I will need to add something... Read more ..read more
