As extremely high temperatures threaten to arrive in New York for several days, Gov. Kathy Hochul warns residents to take the necessary precautions and stay cool.
The heat wave is predicted to start affecting the entire state of New York on Tuesday, June 18, and last through Friday, June 21.
It will bring high humidity and "feel-like" temperatures in the upper 90s to mid-100s in most of the state.

A former pediatric nurse from Long Island could avoid jail time after confessing that she raked in over $1 million selling forged COVID-19 vaccine cards and opioid prescriptions.
Julie DeVuono, age 51, of Amityville, pleaded guilty to filing forged vaccination record cards, laundering the criminal proceeds from selling the cards, and filing false prescriptions for opioids in Suffolk County Court in September 2023.

Extremely hot temperatures, coupled with high humidity and bright sunshine, will make it feel like it's over 100 degrees this week during what is expected to be the first heat wave of the year.
The extreme heat could affect about 135 million people across the US and parts of Canada from Tusday, June 18 through Saturday, June 22.

A 59-year-old man faces drug and weapons charges after he was allegedly caught trespassing at a housing authority property in Westchester, police announced.
New Rochelle resident Jamel Glenn was arrested on Friday, June 14 around 12:45 p.m. after he was found trespassing at a New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority property at 111 Lockwood Ave., according to the city's police department.
After officers searched him, Glenn was found in possession of around 30 grams of crack cocaine, heroin, powder cocaine, and brass knuckles, police said.

A Hudson Valley man is facing charges after police say they received a complaint that he was having sexual contact with a dog.
Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, June 12, in Ulster County, police arrested Michael J. Cook, age 39, of Saugerties.
As a result of an ensuing investigation following the complaint, Cook was charged with sexual abuse and criminal mischief.

A new highly contagious COVID-19 variant known as KP.3 now accounts for most infections in the United States.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that in a two-week period ending Saturday, June 8, the strain made up 25 percent of cases nationally, just ahead of the KP.2 variant (22.5 percent).
