I solicited your comments for a 50th anniversary retrospective on the April 6, 1974, California Jam rock festival, which drew 200,000 people to the Ontario Motor Speedway. Reminiscences came in right up until deadline, then beyond deadline, and then in the days after publication. Hey, man. Nobody at a rock festival is on a strict schedule. It’s uncool. Well, we’ll get to your comments. They’re pretty good. First, though, let’s deal with one Cal Jam curiosity: the tossing of empty water jugs. As a reader in Eastvale, Kent (Bayless) Romero, described it, he first thought he was gazing at bouncin ..read more

San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson said he believes that his office could have proven the five counts of attempted murder filed against suspected Ontario Christian High shooting plotter Sebastian Bailey Villaseñor, but two Southern California law professors described the charges as “a stretched legal theory” considering not a single shot was fired nor was a firearm ever pointed at anyone. The charges, which could have carried a 75-year sentence, were dropped Thursday, May 30, when Villaseñor, 18, pleaded guilty to one count of witness intimidation. As part of the plea agree ..read more

By David Koenig | The Associated Press Boeing told federal regulators Thursday how it plans to fix the safety and quality problems that have plagued its aircraft-manufacturing work in recent years. The Federal Aviation Administration required the company to produce a turnaround plan after one of its jetliners suffered a blowout of a fuselage panel during an Alaska Airlines flight en route to Ontario in January. In late February, FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker gave Boeing 90 days to come up with a plan to improve quality and ease the agency’s safety concerns. “This is a guide for a new way for ..read more
