MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was shot in Muskegon Heights Wednesday evening, according to police.
Around 6:10 p.m., officers were called to Howell Avenue near Dyson Street for reports of a shooting. They arrived to find one person with injuries that were not life-threatening, Muskegon Heights Police confirmed.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — For the first time ever, a youth Juneteenth parade is being held in downtown Muskegon. Preparations have been well underway for over a year.
People have longed for a youth Juneteenth parade in Muskegon, and it's finally happening thanks to Taking Back Muskegon Inc.

BLUE LAKE TOWNSHIP — The spot along a road in Muskegon County's Blue Lake Township where Jonathan Jurecki was shot and killed by a Michigan State Police trooper on May 25 is still littered with pepper bullets — small orange and black projectiles holding pepper spray.
More than two weeks after the shooting, state police have released few details about what led them to shoot Jurecki, who had told them he had a bomb.
State police are now saying they tried less-than-lethal force during the nearly four-hour standoff with Jurecki, who they say had a device with wires coming out of it.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas were the last to receive news that they had been freed.
The day came two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Since then, Black Americans have celebrated this day with picnics, concerts and other events. In 2021, Juneteenth was declared an official federal holiday.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Muskegon Heights is getting $500,000 from the federal government to help revitalize its downtown.
The funding will support a multimillion-dollar project that will include new bike lanes, lighting, sidewalks, streets and landscaping. The project is still in the planning stages and the federal funding is for design and other preparation work.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Rescuers in Muskegon have again paused the search for a man presumed drowned in Lake Michigan.
Multiple Muskegon County Sheriff's Office boats were seen on the choppy water Sunday morning after the search was suspended Saturday night around 9 p.m. Early Sunday afternoon, the search was called off due to choppy conditions on the lake, according to the Coast Guard.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Rescuers in Muskegon have suspended the search for a man presumed drowned in Lake Michigan.
Crews spent around seven hours Saturday at Pere Marquette Park. They suspended their efforts just after 9 p.m. Saturday, giving up the search when it got dark.
That afternoon, witnesses reported seeing a man struggle in the water and then go under.

SPRING LAKE, Mich. (WOOD) — Popular Muskegon restaurant Hamburger Mikey is opening a Spring Lake location.
Managing partner Tim Taylor said his team is aiming to open the new location this July. Hamburger Mikey is set to go into 909 W Savidge St. off of US-31, replacing Beefy's Burger Shack, which closed on May 9.
Hamburger Mikey first opened in Muskegon around eight years ago. The location has been successful, Taylor said, citing his team's customer service, atmosphere and fresh food.
