PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- By dawn Monday, floodwaters had receded from a section of Interstate 25 and streets west of the freeway but a muddy mess remained as drivers headed to work. Most of the flooding from Sunday night's downpour affected an area between the Ilex Street exit and Minnequa Avenue -- south of downtown -- to include Abriendo and Northern avenues. Authorities briefly closed the southbound lanes of I-25 between the Abriendo and Northern exits because of flooding but reopened them just before midnight. PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - Four people are safe and uninjured after having to be rescued from the Arkansas River by Pueblo Fire Department (PFD). PFD says they were called out to the river after four people were reportedly stuck in the Arkansas River just below the city park. The department arrived on scene and launched their raft and the swift water rescue team. The rescue went successfully, as all four people were taken safely from the water. PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) arrested a 61-year-old after investigating a case where a woman was held against her will and was sexually assaulted on the east side of Pueblo. PPD says that during the investigation, detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for 61-year-old Jefferson Benfield as well as a search warrant for his residence. According to PPD, On May 29, detectives located Benfield, and after a brief pursuit, he was taken into custody. (KRDO) - KRDO13 Investigates is revealing how a Pueblo West man accused of sexually assaulting a child was tracked down by Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies. 47-year-old Lonnie Martin has been slapped with three felony charges: sexual assault on a child under 15, sexual assault as a person in a position of trust, and aggravated incest. PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - The basketball courts on North Elizabeth St. are known as "The Slabs" to locals in the Steel City. The historic courts are now being renovated after the City of Pueblo realized they were in need of repairs. (KRDO)- A new mural is being painted on the historical section of the Pueblo levee. On Wednesday, the artist started to paint their design, one that many farmers and growers will appreciate.  The artist doing it all goes by DEADHAND. PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -An increase in abandoned and surrendered animals is leaving the Humane Society of the Pike Peak Region (HSPPR) in a pinch. Leaders at the Pueblo branch say they're dealing with a 17 percent increase in animals being dropped off.
