A small group of pro-Palestinian protestors gathered outside the Desert Financial Arena on Saturday to protest First Lady Jill Biden’s attendance at the 2024 Mesa Community College graduation commencement ceremony. A group of five protestors gathered near the sidewalk on Veteran’s Way, holding a Palestinian flag, and signs that read “Stop his genocide,” and “don’t bomb refugees.” “Jill Biden and Joe Biden are complicit in the genocide,” said Scott Menor, one of the protestors. The Mesa Community College track and field teams prepare to send 39 athletes to compete in the National Junior College Athletics Association national championship tournament in West Monroe, Louisiana from May 16-18. The Mesa Community College baseball team’s season ended Friday after the Thunderbirds lost the Region I semifinals series against Gateway Community College, ending their 2024 season. The Thunderbirds lost the first two games of a three game series against the Geckos despite earning the number one seed. The first game took place on May 3, ending in a 3-0 defeat for MCC. A charity flag football game organized by Arizona Law Enforcement Outreach and Support was hosted at the Mesa Community College football stadium on Saturday to raise money for scholarships and injured first responders. 2024 marked the 14th edition of the Hope Charity Battle of the Badges game, a tradition that started when vice-president of AZLEOS Jim Hill still worked as a police officer for the Scottsdale Police Department.
